I would like to take the time to wish everyone on the Forums, or just reading the Forums, a safe and happy Memorial Day. Drive safe if you are traveling and if your staying at home like me don't get too close to the barbecue grill.

A National Guardsman from Morgantown was killed earlier this week in Afghanistan so this will be an especially sad and solemn observance here.

As we celebrate this holiday weekend with cook-outs, gardening and pool openings, try to remember the reason for its observance.

Our Memorial Day Weekend started off with the arrival of the HL Yacht!

Then later yesterday I.O.'s youngest daughter arrived with her two girls (6 & 3). Currently the cats and I are enjoying a brief respite from the turmoil while they went to a movie. We had rain overnight and this morning. By the time they return they can, hopefully, return to outdoor activities. Yesterday Grandpa caught the only fish. Tonight we'll try to have a bonfire and tomorrow attend a parade.

The "HL Yacht" - for those who've not been around these Forums since 1999 or so:

I believe it was in a chat one night in 1999 when Mombo revealed she had had a 'strange dream' on a previous night.

Mombo lives on a portion of the Canal system that links the Great Lakes with the Inter-Coastal Waterway.

She dreamt that the "Harbour Lights Yacht" had come down the canal and docked at her place. I believe Bill, Nancy and Kim were on board and they came up to meet her.

From Sue's dream has come a part of the lore of these Forums. To find some of the references to the HL Yacht in past chats, Click Here

Now you know the rest of the story.

After a brief visit to Mombo-land, and a tour by the IO's grandkids, this is what the HL yacht was looking like

Have a safe holiday everyone!

Please remember in your prayers the families of the people who died on I-40 in the Arkansas/Oklahoma area in that tragic bridge accident.

Trying to make up for being out on Thursday and Friday, wedding stuff, I worked a while today. My mother and aunt arrived on Saturday and we enjoyed a big Sunday dinner yesterday...today like millions of others, we are doing the hot dog and hamburger meal.

Memorial Day always brings back a flood of memories to me dealing with my uncles who served in WW2. My husband, as many of our forum friends were active duty during the Vietnam years and all of them were so fortunate to come home as were we that so many are and were willing to defend the GREATEST country on the face of the earth.

Our prayers go out to all the families who remember their fallen war heros today.

Do you ever say "I wish I could go back a week"? Last Friday morning, my 17 year old daughter's best friend, mom, and another 17 year old friend from her high school were killed in a car wreck on their way to Lake Powell. They became the first holiday weekend fatalities on the roads in Utah.

It has been very hard for my daughter. We have had 2 days of funerals and viewings. Talk about draining your emotions. This has been a rough last week of school for all the students.

I can only echo everyone elses thoughts Lorie. May God be with your daughter and the friends and families of those involved.
I lost my step-father a year and a half ago at Christmas time. He was a great guy; WWII vet that landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. He was proud of his service and loved his country. I always felt it was fitting that his birthday was May 30th, traditional Memorial Day.
