Today, in the hustle and bustle, let us not forget those who have given their lives in the service of our country.

And pause also to remember family and friends who have passed before. Our "re-membering" reconnects their lives and ours once again.

Thanks to God for the memories that allow us to be blessed by those who who have passed.

Many radio specials on memoral day today.
My wife turned one on and made me listen to it.
I am thankful she did. We really need to take this day and reflect on it. Be thankful for what all our veterans have done for this country and this whole world

There was a very touching segment on Dateline over the weekend. Several Iraqi veterans put together a Memorial Service honoring their fallen buddies. Each picked one or more of his comrades and put together a tribute on computer by compiling slideshows of photographs of their fallen friends and selecting music which helped to portray the spirit of each friend. I wish a whole program had covered the complete tribute. The bits and pieces they showed were very moving and beautiful.

What would Memorial Day be without old glory? This weekend when I was looking in my stash for a tablecloth I resurrected an idea I'd used previously for patriotic gatherings. I used the flag that was on my grandfather's casket. (He was a Spanish-American War vet.) To protect it I covered it with a double layer of heavy duty plastic.

Weekend guests included 4 of I.O.'s granddaughters, ages 6, 7, 8 and 10. They got a lesson on why we celebrate Memorial Day while eating their Fruit Loops and Cocoa Puffs. smile
