Many good wishes for a Happy and Fulfilling New Year is sent from my home to my extended HL family. One of my hopes for the new year is that at whatever "gathering" we can attend, we will be able to meet those we have become so fond of on this forum.

My thought is that the best of the best are getting to know one another because Bill Younger had a dream.

It appears we all survived the Y2K terror. What a joke that was.

FINALLY.......someone who, like me, thinks the new century and millennium starts in 2001. Thanks Paul. Course now we get to hear all the hype again next December. Anyway, Happy New Year everyone. And thanks for a great year on this forum.

Thanks Mike and Paul! People need to know that the new century and millennium don't start until Jan 1 2001. I'm so tired of hearing this on radio and TV! It's just a selling ploy! Your right Mike, we can look forward to hearing it all again next December!

Yes, I also think the next hundred years begins in 2001, however in the big picture, the first 1 in the year turned into a 2, sssssoooooooooooooo

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Paul,

I gave up on giving voice to that 2,000/2,001 technicality a long time ago. Nobody wanted to listen, and I was overpowered by those who wanted to celebrate big *this* year.

Anyhow, since nobody really can say for sure when Christ was born (last I heard it supposedly was around the year 3 B.C.), nobody really knows when the millenium turns. It might have happened two years ago!

So, since this is the first year with a 2 in the thousands place,

Happy New Millenium!

Go ahead, say it! You'll get used to it after awhile.

Happy New Millenium!

Nope can't do it, Art.

Sue cut a cartoon out of the local paper a week ago and laid it on my keyboard. It shows a couple sitting on a couch together talking. He says, " I can't believe we're not doing anything special to ring in the new Millennium." She replies, "Well, You still have a year to plan something" the in the next frame He says, "Y'know, you purists are going to have a very lonely party." She answered, "Lonely, but correct."

That women in the cartoon pretty well sums up my feelings about it. Oh by the way besides being correct, I tend to be stubborn about it, also,

P.S. Most of the people that I run around with and work with, feel the same way, so I won't be that lonely next year. There just won't be all the big ad agencies promoting it. Since they pushed this year as the new Millennium, they wouldn't dare push it again next year, or will they?

Happy New Year Y'all! I agree with Paul though, another whole year till the century and millenium switch. I think by around June, people will start coming around to the proper way of thinking!

All I know is that when my 92 Saturn's Odometer recently rolled over to 100,000 miles, I thought the 100,000 was kinda cool. Not 100,001 which technically is the start of my next hundred thousand... . It's all about numbers folks....

My 91 Corsica hasn't turned over to 100,000 miles yet, which I think is really cool! It must be waiting for the new Millennium to start on January 1, 2001.

Paul, I still feel that the big ad agencies along with the media WILL push it again at the end of this year. I would imagine they'll use the guise of "The REAL start of the next millennium". Ya gotta remember, when it comes to ad agencies and media, they have one major rule----anything for a buck.

HAHAHA. You tell me Paul. Are we safe in assuming that you've already reported the new millennium and there won't be a repeat in about 363 days? If it does happen again, maybe you could put some kind of original spin on the next one.

The TV station that I work for chose the phrase "Countdown to 2000" with no mention of Century or Millennium.

Boy, Art, doesn't that open up a new thought stream. If this is true, could it be 3 B.C.?

Self-referential statements always create uncertainty. ;>

Considering the half-life of the memory of the U.S. public is about equal to that of a boron-9 isotope, I'd say the chances are pretty good.

Being in the industry, I just happened to notice that the Forum has it's own Y2K bug. Since this is the place where we are marking the change to the "Twos", did anyone else not that the dates are a bit messed up? Posted dates are "01-01-100" and so forth. On the Topic Level the dates are "00-01-10".

So, if this is really the year 100 - does that mean HL can only do Pharos and a collection of beacon fires on hill sides?

A Millennium celebration next year without the Y2K bugs sounds great to me!

Happy New Year to the most caring bunch of Wackos (and Newbies) on the Internet.

Happy New Year to all! Hope that all of you had a great holiday season. I do agree with all of those that said the millennium changes next year. I hope we don't have to go through all the hype next year as well. It was getting a little annoying.

Ok, so we have the SoL as Liberty Enlightening the World for the turn of the century piece. Now we can debate the millenium piece since half of you say it's this year and half say next year. If having it next year means a special millenium piece will be offered, then it's okay by me to wait!

Actually, Joanne, it's not even the turn of the century. It just happens to be the year that ends with two 0's, and is the first year to start with the number two. A special year, yes, but not for what some of the media would have you believe.
