As of Monday, I am officially a licensed driver according to the state of New Jersey.

My 17th birthday was on Sunday, too, but I figure this is MUCH more exciting.

Dennis, Bob Ott, Bob J, Loon, Barry and all the rest of the NJ gang...I'd advise staying off the roads for about the next 4 months.

Now it's time to plan my lighthousing adventures! As a pre-glimpse, here's a picture from the current owner of what has about a 75% chance of becoming the new Gregmobile: a 1993 Land Rover Range Rover Classic County Long Wheelbase.

We just call them 93 RRC LWBs.

So...hopefully by the time I meet everyone at the NY Harbor Cruise in June, I'll finally have a Land Rover to call my own. vhappy

Donations now being accepted for filling a 12 MPG truck with premium fuel. laugh

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Sunday Greg! Sorry we missed the actual day, but hope you had a great time!

And also CONGRATULATIONS on getting your drivers permit! Brilliant! Hope you enjoy driving as much as I do! The RRC LWBs looks great! Have fun with it and I hope the donations to the fuel fund will roll in soon! applaud

Greg,

Happy birthday! I vaguely remember becoming old enough to go get my permit at the DMV.

I'll steer clear of any vehicles that look like yours just to be safe. In Ireland it would be a bit easier- they make all the learning drivers to have a big L on thier car so you know who they are.

Well Happy Belated Birthday, Greg! Now's your chance to prove everyone wrong that believe teenage drivers are the worst.

Remember these three things:

1. Don't speed!
2. Don't drive impaired!
3. Always, always, always wear your seat belt!

There is no such thing as an "accident". We call them crashes. Crashes are caused by operator negligence. Usually it's a speed that is unreasonable or improper for existing conditions. Operators out-drive their own limitations as well as the limitations of their vehicle. Drive defensively and be aware of what's around you at all times. Always expect the unexpected. That car will go through the stop sign or red light. That car will cut you off. That person will step out in front of you. It happens all the time.

If you see one of these coming at you...

..pray that it goes right on by.

Greg,
The streets are probably the safest spot, it's the sidewalks I'm worried about. birthday

Happy Birthday, Greg!

Big Congrats on your driver's license. Heed Officer Bob's tips and always watch out for the other guy.

Don't just think about NJ drivers...watch out for those speed traps in Currituck County, NC!

Happy Birthday Greg and as far as driving goes remember the purpose is to get where you're going. So always try to keep your own car under control and watch out for the other guy. Here are a couple of tips I picked up at a driver training course I took a long time ago.

1. When you stop behind another car at a stop sign, red light etc. leave enough distance between you and the car ahead of you so that you can see their entire rear wheels.

2. If you are at a green light waiting to make a left turn and are into the intersection keep your wheels straight until you turn. That way if someone hits you in the rear your car will go straight, not turn into an oncoming vehicle.

Happy birthday Greg and congrats on your new found freedom with driving!

In Utah, you can only have one other person in the car with you that is under 21 for the first 6 months after getting your license. I think that is good to keep you from getting distracted.

Also...don't drive and talk on your cell phone!!!! bash

Oh my goodness........another teenager on the roads! Keep your eyes on the road! Hands on the steering wheel....Forget the cellphone, friends yakking in the car with you, changing the radio/cd, watching a dvd, eating while driving.....on my goodness.....now I'm sounding like a parent! birthday
