This is a learner's permit. 5-6 months of driving with Mom or Dad before he can take the driving test.
Mom's car -- the PT Cruiser -- is the one he will be learning on. Primarly because Dad can reach over and control the steering wheel and put on the emergency brake when needed!

Wow that's neat Chris! I'm sure you'll be a very safe driver. The hardest thing will be coping with your instructors!

Congratulations, Chris! Condolences, Mom & Dad. . . . You could always take the challenge, John, and do what Susan did. She taught Heather to drive a 5 speed manual S-10. Heather is one of the few kids at her HS who can drive a manual.

That's a neat looking learner's permit! Congratulations Chris! In Ohio, at least I was told this, you have to be taught by a professional learners/drivers school at a cost of over $300! One of my bosses has a son that just turned 16. I think he could get his permit at six months before his 16th birthday. I have just over 8 years before this "fun" starts for me! Andy's already talking about driving and mom and dad sitting in the back seat! I can hardly wait!

Well we made our first 'official' trip with Chris at the wheel tonight. From here to the super market -- about 5 miles round trip on neighborhood streets.
Chris did just fantastic!

My youngest just got off my policy due to an age break and a good student discount which acknowledged a 30% maturity discount on his individual rate! Amazing the rates they charge on a 10 year old car!

Maturity Discount? My son just turned 19 and got his regular adult drivers license in June. He has had no accidents or other license problems. I was just telling someone today that you would think that my insurance would go down now. He already has a good student discount. But because he is going to college so close to home, even though not living at home, I have to pay full insurance on him. It is starting to hurt financially.
Oh yes, congratulations Chris and to Mom and Dad! In no time at all, he will be telling you that you don't drive correctly!

Suzanne - the magic age for boys is 21 and 26. Marriage will help too! lol First two years are the biggies for teenage accidents. My kids are all good drivers but that doesn't save them from the other crazies on the road.
