Lets all join together to offer support for Gary Martin's family. His youngest son, Casey is undergoing emergency back surgery today.
Gary, you guys are in my thoughts & prayers. I hope Casey has an easy time of this, and will soon be on the road to recovery. When he wakes up from surgery, please tell him that he has lots of lighthouse friends pulling for him. To you & Linda, I send you hugs while you wait. That's a very difficult time for a parent.

Many thanks to all of my friends here on lighthousekeepers for your thoughts and prayers!
Casey went into surgery about 6 AM this morning. Last night was one I'd rather I'd never had to live through. His back started to spasm about 1:30 AM and I took him to the ER at the local major hospital at about 1:45. They got him admitted about 4:30 and onto some pain killers after which I left and came home. About 5:20 this morning the phone range to see if we had any questions before they wheeled him up to surgery that was scheduled to start at 6 AM. He was back out of surgery by about 7:30 this morning and we got to talk to his surgeon about 8 or so. His surgeon was quite pleased with how everything had gone and was pretty well convinced that Casey would be fine and wouldn't have any long term problems in the aftermath of having had to have the disc removed this morning. We got to see him in recovery for a few minutes around 11 this morning. He looked pretty bad -- severe nausea from the anesthetic but other than that we were told he was coming out of it normally. It turns out that nausea from aneshtesia has a familial tendency and Linda has always had severe nausea from anesthetics.
We spent some time with him this afternoon after the got him into a room. He was feeling sort of feisty, talking about coming home tonight, which neither Linda nor I figured would happen. We left to get something to eat and then went back to the hospital around 7:30 or so this evening and he was fast asleep. I suspect the kid didn't sleep at all last night -- I know for all practical intents I sure didn't. We expect to bring him home tomorrow. His surgeon said he'd be 4 to 6 weeks until he was back to 100% normal, whatever that is with an 18 y/o!
Again, thanks to all of my friends for all of the thoughts and paryers...
Gary

Thanks for the update; it sounds like things are going well -- or as well as you can hope when something like this interupts your lives.
God be with you; you'll be in our prayers and thoughts.
