Steve Ervin (better known as 'Digger') reports he hasn't been active on the Forums lately because his son, born with hip & joint defects underwent a hip reconstruction at Shriners Hospital recently and the family expects more operations to follow.

He says the family is in for some trying times, but he has a positive outlook.

Please keep the Ervin family in your thoughts and prayers.

Digger,
You are in our thoughts and prayers as well. I have a client whose child was treated at Shriner's Hospital in Chicago, and they think the world of the people up that way. I'm sure that your child is in the best of hands and will do well with all of us praying for him.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies, they mean so much to our family right now. Ryan is doing just fine and is home again. He is confined to a wheelchair for the next 7 weeks but he sort of enjoys it. Now all he has to do is wheel up to the computer and sit there all day surfing the web while we wait on him hand and foot. The surgery was incredible. They reconstructed the hip socket with bones from other parts eliminating the need for any "artificial" ones and greatly reducing the chances of crippling arthritis later on. The doctors at the Shriner's hospital are truly amazing and I cannot praise them enough! One more operation to lengthen a leg and he should finally be finished and ready to "take on the world", that is if I can get him away from the computer!

Great news Digger. Don't suppose Ryan is going to work this wheelchair stint for all it's worth, do you?? We know that dad would never do that. We'll keep the Ervins in our thoughts and prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with you and your family, Digger.

Sue and I just got back from a short lighthousing trip and reading this thread cold, took me through the gamit of emotions, with the best of course coming after reading your response post stating the results so far. That it truely amazing what they are able to do to help Ryan.
