I have been surprised to see some of the low prices that Anchor Bay brings on eBay auctions. Yesterday a Columbia lightship sold for $96. I'm kicking myself for not bidding. Is there any reason why Columbia would sell that far below retail?

Supply and demand. I didn't own an Anchor Bay Ship before last week. I now own 6. Got them all for around 50% of retail. I have been collecting Harbour Lights for 2 years and never had much interest in the ships. The retailer in our area is selling them at 50% off, and I couldn't resist. Now I will probably complete the set. They are really spectacular pieces and the prices are just right.

Hey Gary, ... You and I are in the same boat, so to speak. I wasn't going to collect ABs until I won the "Huron" at the Reunion last Fall. Now I'm only missing the "Tori Dawn", Columbia and Portsmouth. Does your dealer have any of these for a "special" price? Send me and email and let me know...thanks!

So Bob, that must mean you have a set of the "most limited" OE Anchor Bay ships.

Hi Gary and Kevin, ... Thanks for the info about the "Tori Dawn". I bought it today and it will be shipped out tomorrow. I was going to purchase the Portsmouth but someone beat me to it. If anyone knows of a deal on the Portsmouth and the Columbia Lightships, please let me know. My AB collection will be complete once I have those two.

I to started collecting the AB's and have 4 of them, mostly full price or 25% off. But have noticed a few dealers dropping prices to 50% off. So I am waiting to get the others when I find them at the 50% off.

Anybody see any let me know.

Found out last night that I have the "Skipjack" nancy. Anyone needing one, needs to call Amy's because of the $25.00 deal.
She also still has "Huron" & "Cheaspeake".

Saw this thread for the first time last night. Just wanted to let the AB forum people know that my local Hallmark dealer has the following at 65% off:

Skip Jack Nancy
Lightship Cheasapeake
Motor Yacht Kim
Tugboat Toledo

E-mail me for their name & phone #.

I also bought 3 Anchor Bay's last week at 75% off, I bought the Skipjack Nancy, the Motor Yacht Kim and The Sardine Lori. I bought them thinking I could sell them on ebay but decided to keep them for myself. Now I want the 44' Coast Guard Cutter when it comes out.

Sorry to have to be the "rain on the AB parade" but isn't a sell off of these pieces at 50-65% an indication of how poorly the line is moving? I personally have not been excited about the line and don't own any. Even 50% off hasn't moved me. Yes, they have historical significance as related to lighthouses but I just am not excited about ships, that to me, fall into the catagory of freighters, tenders and cargo ships. I will say that the new Coast Gaurd replica is getting closer to something that I would actually purchase and enjoy having displayed.
Just my opinion folks, no offense intended!

Just curious - Is there anyone else who liked the ships initially when they came out and paid retail prices for them?

Dodad - So sorry I did not get back to you sooner, but I just saw your post. No, I bought the last of the line. Took them right off the shelf.

Gary,

I did - I bought the Chesapeake because I visit Baltimore often and love it, the Columbia because I used to live in Astoria OR and could see the newer version from my house, and the Portsmouth just because I visited it. Don't have any others, though I'm tempted by the skipjack.

Gary,
I bought the LE Chesapeake through R@R. I'd seen it disappear from dealers shelves while other AB's were being marked down; thought that it might be the single one to actually appreciate in value. Besides, like Dixie, I've visited the real thing, and just really liked the ship. If I find a deeply discounted Huron I'll possibly by it, but I doubt I'd buy any others even at 1/2 price.

If anyone sees a great deal on a "Tori Dawn" please let me know. I had purchased one but when it was delivered, the glass case was broken and the boat was damaged. I don't feel they did a very good job of packing it. After 30 days, the store finally advised me they wanted me to ship it back to them. Unfortunately, they don't have another one to replace it.

Such is life....first HL product I ever received broken. I guess I've been lucky so far.

Bob
