Looks like the gussing came may be over. Check out the August Harbour Lights Musings. It's the USCGC "TANEY". WWII Treasury/Secretary Cutter. Looks like a winner.

Will a matched set of this model be as popular as the matched set of the "Mack"?

I know that this set of Anchor Bays will be much more popular to me as I've served on one of the Taney's sister ships. The icebreaker may be more popular in the Great Lakes area but on the Coast I feel the Taney will be more popular. It will also be more popular with the veterans.

I am slightly interested in this new set of ships but I can't seem to be as interested in them as I was about the Mackinaw. I think the ice and snow on the Mackinaw pieces is what really caught my attention and is what made the decision as to whether or not I wanted to purchase them. As for the Taney, I am still debating at this point....

(Perhaps some detailed photo shots of the ships could be posted by Paul when they become available) wink

I do like the idea of a double variation set for a particular ship. This is a neat concept and is striking up some interest in the collectors who purchase ABs. Smart move by HL.

I too am waiting for more pics. My only negative comment is the base. I would have rather more water/waves instead. It would have matched the Mac's that way.

The Mac's were my first AP's that I purchased. Since then I have bought two other Coast Guard ships. I wiil also be getting the Taney set. My husband likes the ships. He like the detail that has been put into the ships and he says it takes him down memory lane.

I to would much prefer that the WWII "Taneys" were not mounted on a base as they don't appear as realistic as some of the other models. Also, in viewing the two side by side from a structure stand point, they don't seem to be a match. This is only one man's opionion

Angus - The 2 Taneys won't be a match as the Mackinaws were. The Mackinaws were an identical match because one day the Mac was white and the next day the Mac was red. The white Taney is the way she appears today in Baltimore Harbor. The gray Taney is the way she appeared on Dec. 7, 1941. It was a real feat getting accurate pictures from 1941 and the final picture was an artist painting based on the CG Historians research on the Taney pictures, drawing and blueprints from that Dec. 7th day. While I would have preferred the Taneys without the wooden base, Harry has taken an almost impossible task upon himself and turned it into a work of beauty. So, look at the scope of work that went into these pieces and forget the base and look at the detail of the ships.

Great explanation Rich!

You got to figure any ship thats is existence for over 60 years is going to have revisions made to it for it to keep up with the times.

Harry brought the paint samples with him to Door County. Very nice looking - I think people should be happy with them. Paul did take some pictures but he wasn't able to get the kind of pictures you will see when he gets a set into his studio. I imagine he will share some of the pictures once he gets home and gets images downloaded and tuned up.
