Has there been any word on upcoming new releases of Anchor Bay boats? The USCG 44 seemed to be a hit. I really like mine. Will HL be coming out with another great release in the near future?

Inquiring minds on the East Coast, where it's 30 degrees with light snow falling over the 6-8" we received over the last 36 hours, would like to know.

I figured there was some sort of a problem. My brother called me several weeks ago and told me that he had purchased the "Huron" for half-price at a regular retail outlet and wanted to know if he wanted me to pick one up....ofcourse, I said yes. While they are extremely nice...the retail price seems to be a bit "high" for the average collector. Have you ever heard of any HL's being "on-sale" at half price??

I can beat the "half price", Brent. I got mine for free! I won it at the Harbour Lights Reunion in Providence, Rhode Island.

Yes, deals are out there if you're in the right place at the right time. Some dealer stock doesn't move so they bend the rules and discount it to make room for new products.

Your right, Bob...."Free" is pretty hard to beat! Maybe I'll have such luck one of these days.

It is a shame but even some of the long standing dedicated Harbour Light Dealers have given up and reduced their A.B. prices by 40% AND 50%. I have not seen the Coast Guard ship reduced and I think It will never need be. (it is hot)

The A.B. have had bad sales and it may be hard to keep convincing H.L. dealers to stock them. My dealer told me she was going to stop the Anchor Bay Line. But I convinced her not too,by making a commitment to buy one of each auto shipment.

To sell the Anchor Bay line, I think either more dealers (maybe some that are not affiliated with H.L.) will have to be found or the production should be reduced. Maybe like 2,000. More hot ships like the coast Guard ship would help.

I agree with you, Daniel. One question that I have is....what made HL decide to sell the AB's with such an elaborate glass & base enclosure? While they are very nice it obviously added quite a bit of cost to the series...and to packaging. By the way, if you ever hear about the "Portsmouth" being sold at half-price, let me know.

I believe that Younger & Assoc. felt that the ships were too fragile and needed to be protected. I personally like the cases. My curio has been filled up with light houses for more than two years now. With A.B. having their own case it makes it easy to find a place to display them. All I need is a horizontal surface.

I checked a few places and the Portsmouth is already sold.
One place is painting their back room and will double check it in the middle of next week. I will let you know then.

Heard in the chatroom tonight: There will be another AB vessel released late 2000, early 2001 perhaps. It will be another USCG piece.

The "Mackinaw" sure would be a fine addition to the AB line...and I feel that it would sell well. I'll cross my fingers....

If the Anchor Bay line is going to be phased out. I would love to see one more lightship. A model of the U.S. Coast Lightship (RELIEF). The RELIEF Lightship was the ship that was on station when the named lightship was in the shipyards for repairs ro dry-docking.

I would like to see the next A.B. to be the Eagle Coast Guard Cutter.
I know it would be expensive, but it would sure add some (old) Spice.

I have three AB's that I bought at 75% off because the store was discontinuing the line. I really enjoy them and wish I could afford more, but unless I find a super sale, I won't be adding any more to my collection.

A good experiment regarding price would be for HL to offer a ship at two prices - one which is the ship alone, and the other with the display box. It might make a difference of as much as $50.00. I've seen similar display cases for $75.00.

If the Anchor-Bay series is going to be phased-out what do you think will happen to the "values" of the existing models in the future? Any thoughts on that?

Sean, I agree with you. Time will tell if the value of the AB's will go up. It's hard to tell now, with many of the stores selling them at half price. I guess I should have waited a while before I bought mine! I know of a few stores locally that did just that!
Not a big seller, unlike the lighthouses!

Now let me see, everybody wants to buy the Anchor Bay Ships on sale but at the same time they want them to go up in value. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. Everytime a store puts some of their AB's on sale the value of yours goes down and down and down!

While I am on my soapbox, everytime you buy a HL on sale you lower the value of your collection. I feel better now!

No new posts in the Anchor Bay thread in over three weeks? Will Anchor Bay go away? Have we seen our last vessel/ship/boat from Younger & Associates?

THE DEALERS ARE SO "WIGGED OUT" ON PIECES THAT DON`T SELL. THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE SHELF SPACE TO ITEMS THEY CAN MOVE. THEY MIGHT HAVE THEM ,BUT YOU`LL PROBABLY HAVE TO ASK FOR THEM. TERRY
