We talked about the glass case that I made for the George Cobb and I am going to try and post a few pictures of the case. I'll be doing one for the Eagle as soon as I get the real dimensions and that won't be until I have it in my hands. There are too many conflicting dimensions even after I call Harbour Lights. Here are the photos of the glass case for the George Cobb.

Enjoy the pictures.

Very Well Done, Rich!!! Wow!! I'd like to give that a try when the EAGLE comes out. SOmewhere you posted that you would send the instructions to anyone who wanted them. I would appreciate having them and would like to make one half as nice as yours for the George CObb.

Rich,
Nice case. Has anyone mentioned the need for one for the Lightship Relief? If you have instructions on how to make one we would appreciate them also.
Thanks,
Bill and Judy

Rich,
I am not really into AB, but I really like the "Eagle" and will order it. I too would like the directions for your case when your "Eagle" arrives.
I am "do it yourself" challenged but I really like the way you describe your creations and modifications and will be really tempted to try it myself.
Thanks,
Rick

I appreciate everyone's comments. I'll come up with a set of directions for the glass cases and the dimensions for the George Cobb. I have still yet to get definate dimensions on the Eagle. I was told 9" X 6" and then 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" and finally "about" 9 1/2" X 6 1/4". Everyone will have to understand that these dimensions are if you are going to use an existing Anchor Bay wooden base from a Chesapeake, Huron or Portsmouth. This is the size base I use and it so far will handle the larger footprint of the George Cobb as long as you position it on a slight angle as you can see by the pictures. This case was my first attempt and is not perfect. You can't see the flaws in the picture but they are there. The case I make for the Eagle will have improvements to it and I will make another for the Cobb also with the improvements. The base is the most expensive part of the case and should not be hard to fabricate with a router if you do not have extra Anchor Bay bases. I do have extra bases so there is no sense in making a base by using a router. I will make up instructions and send then to anyone that wants them in the next 1-2 weeks along with the Cobb dimensions.

While we're on the subject of the George Cobb, H.L. has really got to do something about the stickers on the piece itself. Just recieved mine for my birthday and although I like it, am VERY disappointed in the sticker lettering. For instance, where the red stripe curves around the bow, it doesn't lay flat and just looks very cheap. In general, the sticker paper seems to be just too thick. On the 16' rigid hull inflatable, it looks like they're more of a thin decal, therefore they look much nicer. These stickers are something, in my opinion that H.L. need to improve!

I am bringing this topic to the top again so anybody interested in making a glass case for the Eagle or any other Anchor Bay that does not have one can see what the finished product I made looks like. Any question about this case will be answered.

I know that this solution will not satisfy the purists out there, but for those seeking function over form, there is a company out there called BallQube which makes crystal styrene display cases for sports memorabilia and other collectibles. The Eagle is a perfect fit in their football case, which is also available now with a mirrored back and/or wood base. The prices on the website are a little high but the items are widely discounted on E-Bay. I paid $13.00 for one at a collectable show.

It's no where near as nice as the wooden case that Rich made, but it keeps the dust off.

Jim - Thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought of the football cube. I have 6 Florida Gator footballs in my den in these cubes and totally overlooked them. I've had 2 emails this week about the glass cases and figured I'd resurface all the options from making one to buying one and now there is a 3rd option that you brought up.

I'm resurfaceing for those that are interested in building your own glass case. Dimension/Instruction will also be brought to the top. There are NO REAL DIMENSIONS yet for the Mackinaws but I will post once I receive and verify the dimensions I've been given.

I'm again resurfacing what the glass case I made for the George Cobb looks like and also what the brass look-a-like plate looks like for those of you that are interested in making your own cases and ordering the brass look-a-like plate from me for the Mackinaws or any other Anchor Bay ship that you have that needs one.
