The contest has begun! This contest will be a little different than the last one. Here's the start:

Everyone starts with 50 points. You will be issued several challenges which have different point values. Every challenge has something to do with the Collector Forums or the Harbour Lights website. In order to compete you will have to visit the forums and the HL website.

Everytime you succesfully complete a challenge, a certain amount of points will be deducted from your point total. The first person to reach zero (0) points wins! If there is a tie, the Mass. State Lottery will determine the winner.

THE FIRST CHALLENGE

When I first announced the ABPC#9 contest, I also introduced you to the Anchor Bay Mobile. You can check that topic on the Anchor Bay Thread to see what it looks like. It's a tutone blue 1951 Ford which resembles a State Police Cruiser from Massachusetts. I have put a smaller version of that picture at five different locations in the Collector Forums. The five pictures are approximately 3/4 of an inch in height by about 1 1/2 inches wide. You will receive two (2) points for each one you find. To claim your points you must email me the title of the thread, the topic it is in, and the date of the reply. Here's an example: The Latest Models (title), Old St. Augustine retired (topic), and 04-05-02 (date).

REMEMBER!!! All answers must be mailed to me at biri97@aol.com . DO NOT POST ANSWERS AT THE FORUMS. If you have any questions or need a clarification on something, you can post it here for all contestants to read just in case they have a similar question.

You have one week to complete the first challenge. Subsequent challenges will be posted here over the next week or so.

HINT:

You are looking for the Anchor Bay car,
to find it you won't go back that far,
for what you seek will have a March date,
at five different threads so don't be late.
The big car picture doesn't count as one,
you must seek out the smaller version have fun!

WOW! Two contestants have already found all five! #025 and #026 have shaved 10 points off their score and now are in the lead with 40 points heading towards zero!

Who will be next?

#007 has checked in with four of the five Anchor Bay Mobile locations. He's still looking for the last one. It isn't as easy as you think. #007 has had 8 points deducted from his starting point of 50 as he heads for the magic number of zero (0).

Continuing Anchor Bay Mobile Postcard Exchange #9 Contest...

THE SECOND CHALLENGE

What is the highest priced (MSRP) Anchor Bay boat ever released by Harbour Lights?

A trip to the Harbour Lights website,
will lead you to the price that is right.
Many of the prices are close to the same,
but only one is the answer for this part of the game.

The Second Challenge is worth five (5) points. Good Luck! Email me your answer!

Here's the latest update on the scores. Five people have responded so far. Even though I threw them a little curve ball with one of the Anchor Bay Mobile pictures, four of the five have completed the first and second challenge successfully!

#007, #016, #025, & #026 now have had 15 points deducted from the original 50 points. #014 has completed the second challenge but not the first. Four are tied with 35 points each. #014 has 45 points. Remember zero (0) points is the goal.

(Note: I listed the wrong scores this morning and now have corrected them in this edit)

It's not too late to jump into the contest. Just read the Anchor Bay thread to learn how!

THE THIRD CHALLENGE

The third challenge is a lot of work and you will only be allowed to submit your answers once. They will be no “make-up”. This is where we separate the "men from the boys", and the "women from the girls".

The answers to the following questions are all located somewhere on the HL website. Some of these questions are tricky so read them very carefully. The information I took from the HL website will be considered the only right answers to these questions. Take your time and search out the correct answers. Email your answers to me with the question number preceding each answer. No partial credit will be given. All answers must be completely correct. If there are four things in an answer then all four must be there to get credit as being correct. Each question is worth one point.

1.What does “U.S.S.S.A” stand for?

2.Who was William Wincapaw?

3.Name all the countries that HLs have been cast and painted in since 1991?

4.What HLs had lightning rods on the full production run?

5.How many HL models came with lightning rods?

6.What was the last HL made in Canada?

7.What HL was the first to be made in China?

8.What two HL models have been completely resculpted?

9.According to the information on the HL website, what does the most expensive Collector Society Membership cost?

10.What is the fax number for Harbour Lights in El Cajon?

11.How many red stripes and how many white stripes on HL 103?

12.Under what main link on the HL Website will you find a typo referring to Peggy’s Cove as “Peggy’s Cover”?

13.HL offers a slate clock with different lighthouses as a background. Name those lighthouses.

14.What was the first limited edition HL to be made in China?

15.Under “Me ’n’ Bill”, how many times does Bill appear without a tie on?

Okay kids, that's challenge number three. It's no walk in the park and will require a few visits to search out the answers at www.harbourlights.com . Take your time and check your answers before submitting them. You only get one try, no make-ups.

Two of our contestants have completed the third challenge, as well as the first two. #025 got 14 of 15 correct in challenge three. #026 got 13 of 15 correct. Both of them missed the same one question and #026 missed one other. The one they both missed is a real curve ball so those of you who haven't submitted your answers yet, be careful!

Here's the current standings (remember everyone started with 50 points and the first one to zero (0) points wins):

#025 has 21 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#026 has 22 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#007 has 35 points after completing 1, 2
#016 has 35 points after completing 1, 2
#014 has 45 points after completing 2

It's not to late to join the fun. Just read the above material in this thread and follow the instructions.

Challenge #4 will be posted soon!

The Anchor Bay Postcard Exchange #9 Contest is heating up! Here are the current standings:

#007 has 20 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#025 has 21 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#016 has 21 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#026 has 22 points after completing 1, 2, 3
#014 has 45 points after completing 2

(Remember: first one to zero points wins!)

The last challenge have two real "curve balls" in it. #007 dodged both curve balls and got them both correct. #025 dodged one but fell victim to the other. #016 also dodged one but fell victim to the other. #026 got two wrong and we are still waiting for #014 to complete challenges 1 and 3.

The next challenge will be posted as soon as I get a few spare moments to put it together. It's still not too late to join in!

It's not too late to jump in. You will need to spend a little extra time at the CF and at www.harbourlights.com but that's a labor of love!

Challenge 4 will be posted (hopefully) before this weekend. Start now so you don't fall too far behind.

THE FOURTH CHALLENGE

All the answers for the fourth challenge can be found on www.harbourlights.com or associated links at that site.

Each question is worth one point, if answered correctly!

1. How many lightships served in the waters around the United States?

2. What two lightships mentioned on the HL site are the oldest that were built? Include the name and the year built.

3. What lightship did John Krevey purchase?

4. What is the only lightship that still has her original steam engines?

5. What lightship served as an examination vessel in Edgemoor, Delaware, during the war?

6. What lightship was not sunk by the German submarines because it aided them as much as it did the nation’s shipping?

7. What lightship was sunk by a German submarine?

8. What lightship served as Cornfield, Cross Rip, and Boston?

9. Even though two of the three Nantucket Lightships have subsequently been moved to new locations, at what locations does the HL site list them at?

10. Which of the following lightship “WLV” or “LV” numbers is false? WLV604, LV118, LV101, LV87, WLV605, LV211, LV114, WLV613.

No one said this is going to be easy. Consider it a lesson learned in lightship history as you search for the correct answers. No curve balls in this group. As Joe Friday said, "Just the facts!"

Good luck!

#016 has checked in completing the fourth challenge. They got them all right and take the lead with only 11 points to go to reach the magic number of zero.

I'll post the current scores later today after I check my mail to see if anyone else has completed the fourth challenge.

Good luck to all!

It's Patriot's Day here in Massachusetts! Today is the 106TH running of the Boston Marathon and the weather is rainy at the moment. It is suppose to clear in time for the marathon.

This morning's rain does not effect out Anchor Bay Postcard Exchange #9 Contest. Here are the current standings as of a few minutes ago:

#016 has 11 points after completing 1,2,3, 4
#026 has 12 points after completing 1,2,3, 4
#025 has 12 points after completing 1,2,3, 4
#007 has 20 points after completing 1,2,3
#010 has 24 points after completing 1,2,3
#014 has 45 points after completing 2

The contest is winding down and should end at the end of this week. There will be two more challenges before the contest ends.

Good luck to all!

THE FIFTH CHALLENGE

Here are five questions worth one point each:

1. Who was the high bidder for the one-of-a-kind MacQuarie, Austrailia sculpture at the Harbour Lights Reunion in Baltimore?

2. Who presented Bill & Nancy with a scrapbook of memories from the collectors at the Baltimore Reunion?

3. How much money did Harbour Lights donate to charities from the Opportunity Drawing and the Collector Auction at the Baltimore Reunion?

4. If you hadn't attended the Baltimore Reunion, and you wanted to buy one of each thing available at the Keeper's Exchange, how much money would you need to make that purchase?

5. Listen my friends and you shall hear,
but not a story about Paul Revere.
A one word code is what you seek,
so visit www.harbourlights.com and take a peek.
You'll know it when you see it,
it's as plain as day,
then send me your answers for my okay!

Those are the five questions of the FIFTH CHALLENGE. Email your answers to me whenever you're ready.

Bonus Points available!

To receive bonus points in this challenge, you must complete the following before midnight this Saturday:
· Leave a post in the Anchor Bay Thread, get one bonus point.
· Sign the guest book at www.harbourlights.com, and get one point.
· Guess the month my dog Chipper was born in and receive one point. Only one guess per contestant. Everyone who guesses the correct month gets one point. If no one guesses the correct month than the one person who guessed the closest without going past that month will receive one point. If there is a tie, both contestants receive one point.

Good luck to all contestants! Everyone is in a position to win first prize and if there is a tie, the Mass State Lottery will determine the winner. (more details to follow if that situation arises)

Good morning!

Four of our five contestants have completed the Sixth and final Challenge! I'm just waiting to hear from one more contestant and the Anchor Bay Postcard Exchange #9 Contest will be over.

Operating the contest and searching the Harbour Lights website has been a learning experience for all the contestants and myself. I congratulate all the participants for taking the time to search through www.harbourlights.com and the Collector Forums for all the answers.

You should all be proud for doing so well because there were many trick questions that required quite a bit of thought. I know I learned a lot and hopefully, you did too.

I will post the final point totals as soon as I hear from the last contestant. Technically the contestant has until midnight this coming Saturday to answer and complete the work for the bonus points.

The top three contestants will have their choice of a prize in the order they finish. The other two contestants will receive a consolation prize for participating.

Have a great day!

Bob

The Sixth Challenge has been completed by all the participants in the Anchor Bay Postcard Exchange #9 Contest. Here are the final scores (Note, the lowest point total wins):

#016 has -7 points after completing 1,2,3,4,5,6
#007 has -6 points after completing 1,2,3,4,5,6
#026 has -4 points after completing 1,2,3,4,5,6
#025 has -2 points after completing 1,2,3,4,5,6
#010 has 0 points after completing 1,2,3,4,5,6

All five contestants took advantage of the chance to receive bonus points by leaving a post in the Anchor Bay thread here at the CF and also signing the Guest Book at www.harbourlights.com .

There was also one other bonus point available by guessing what month my dog, Chipper, was born in. No one guessed the exact month but #016 guessed October, and that was the closest without going past the month.

Chipper was born on November 13, 1993

Original announcement of prizes: "The prizes this time are similar to the last contest. There will be a "Bob Younger Memorial Tree", a 2002 Harbour Lights Calendar, and package of 20 different lighthouse postcards. I might even throw in another Mass State Police Flag Pin if we have enough people participate. First place gets first choice of a prize, second place gets second choice, and third place gets the third choice."

Now to claim the prizes: #016 gets the first pick. #007 gets the second pick. #026 gets the third pick. #025 and #010 will receive a consolation prize as soon as the other three participants claim their prizes.

#016 email me you choice. #007 email me your first two choices. #026 email me your first three choices. That should make it work!

Watch this thread for who claimed what prizes!

Bob

I just heard from #007. He has been away for a week at school so that had delayed sending out the contest prizes. Once he makes his choice, all the prizes will be mailed this coming week.

Thank you to all who participated in the Anchor Bay PC Exchange #9 contest. It was fun and a definite learning experience.

All the prizes/gifts were mailed out on Wednesday. So if you partipated in the Anchor Bay PC#9 Contest you will receive a little something very shortly.

Thank you for playing and searching out the answers to all those questions. I hope you enjoyed checking out www.harbourlights.com and paying visits to areas you may not have normally checked.
