Things are really quiet in the Anchor Bay collecting world. No posts here in many months. One would assume that the Barque Eagle was a success. Maybe we need an announcement from Harbour Lights about what's next in the AB world to generate some interest in this fine line of collectibles. Time will tell. Bob

Yeah Bob, It's kinda hard to generate interest in Anchor Bays when Harbour Lights have fogotten them for over a year now.

I guess the only thing we have to look forward to is the new models of the mighthty Mac(inaw) coming next year.

How about they make a the C.S.S. Virgina (better know as the Merrimack) ramming the U.S.S. Cumberland? The Cumberland would be partly sunk and could have flame and such. Maybe a few sailors in the water.
Then they could have the Monitor and Merrimack slugging it out, for the next model.

I think Harbour Lights has been rethinking the Anchor Bay Line and will probably just replicate USCG Boats in the future. Bob

IT would be great to have them announce something in the Anchor Bay Line. Probably when the next list comes out in a few months. Bert

CoastGaurd ships would be fine by me. There's many they could do.

Harry and Nancy told me at the Atlanta collectors show, that all they would be doing from then on are coastguard vessels and lightships. I do like the idea of Historical ships like the Monitor and Merrimack. I also still like my idea of a Coastguard Helicopter or plane. These are the modern ships that are replacing the way the coastguard use to handle the seas. The Helicopter is used more and more for transferring coastguard pilots to take the ships to port and for rescuing distressed seaman.
Maybe the next collectors exclusive could be a Anchor Bay.

I like the Helicopter idea as well. And talk about a broad audience.

A helicopter is not a bad idea, however, me thinks it would be like the rubber liferaft that they did a couple of years ago. Let's stay with real ships and lightships. My opinion as I was not an "airdale" but was a "blackshoe".
But, maybe HLs could come out with a line of military aircraft. I would be interested in a complete line instead of a one of a kind issue.

I like the lightships the best. I'd like to see more of them done up. Maybe if some were identical ships, maybe HL would allow us to put a different name on them. The "Nantucket" could also be the "New Bedford". ????? Bert

Don't forget the USCG Ice Breaker/Cutter Mackinaw which we saw at the reunion.

When the Icebreaker comes out we'll be buying another case! I even liked the "floating log," the Edmund Fitzgerald. Judy

Bill/Judy - What do you mean about the "floating log". I know the Mackinaw is being done next year but what about the Fitzgerald?

Rich, This is one part of an article posted by Paul in the Ethan ALlen Topic: "Stability" is the tendency of a hull to float upright in the water. This is not the same as "buoyancy," which describes a hull's ability to float. By way of example, a log may float well because it has plenty of buoyancy. But it's as happy to float with one side up as the other, because it has very little stability. I think this is what Judy was referring to. Am I correct, Judy? bobo

One of a kind Edmund Fitzgerald prototype was auctioned at 2005 Reunion. It did look like a floating log.

Dan I find that very interesting, Dan. Maybe I missed it but I had heard nothing about the Edmund Fitzgerald being mentioned in the posts from the reunion. Did anyone take any pics of it? How much did the auction bring? Bob

Well Folks,
I talked with Bill a couple of times at the Reunion, and he indicated that the Edmund Fitzgerald would never be produced by Harbour Lights. Too many deaths associated with the disaster.
And I agree with him.

Bob,
Seem to recall it was about $1800, not positive. Prototype was unpainted. Dave H maight have detailed auction listing.
I agree, subject to painful to commercialize.

Perhaps the sculpting of the prototype was a result of numerous inquiries by HL Collectors about the possibility of making a replica. It seems I recall many people asking about that possibility here at the CF in the early days. Harbour Lights does listen to its collectors. Bob

I started a post for all reunion attendees to list the goodies, auctions and giveaways, that happened at the reunion. According to the early post the The Edmund Fitzgerald went for $2100 Reunion 2005 goodies, auctions and giveaways

I believe that also included a print or original painting of the Fitzgerald.
Several years ago, at one of the collectibles show, The Cheryl Spencer Collins people were displaying a sculpture of the Edmund Fitzgerald in TWO PIECES sinking from the surface. I think we might have posted a photo of it here.
Tacky, tacky, tacky.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner but I went back to work for a few months. My posting will probably be not as often for a while. I think you all did a great job answering the question about the "floating log." Actually I think it was Harry who used that description! He didn't think they were very artistic. Anyhow I was fascinated by these freighters and learned about them on the trip. The Mission Point tower had some terrific displays and one was a cut-away of a freighter. I just was thinking a replica of the Fitz would be a nice memorial. It's probably somewhat depressing though. I sure wouldn't want to do anything in bad taste. Judy

Here is another idea. The Nina, Pina and the Santa Maria. I am reading a boat about Columbus's 4th voyage. He was a great sailor and over came many problems. In addition he was a map maker. The man was really home at sea. I bet as he aged and could not see as well that he wished the new world had some lighthouses!
