We got balloons! We got bridges! But, we got no boats! The Anchor Bay Boat thread has been extremely quiet because there's nothing to report. I haven't heard anything about any AB releases this year. Your guess is as good as mine! Will there be any new Anchor Bay boats this year? If there isn't, will this mean the end of the fleet of AB's? What do you think? Bob

Bob Maybe the Forum name needs to be changed from "Anchor Bay Great Ships" to "B B & B". Balloons,Bridges and Boats. At this time there is no spot for balloons and bridges except for at "latest model" Since Anchor bay is not exactly flooded with comments, this would be a good spot to put all the other Harbour light made stuff.

If they have a site for BUOYS, will they need one for GULLS, too?

PS Still contemplating a 1/2 price 'Toledo' to add to my collection...

I asked Bill Younger what Anchor Bays they had in mind for this year and he told me that he doesn't get involved with that part of the business.
All I know is that I'm ready for another Lightship! Maybe one from another country. Honestly though - I'd be happy with ANY Lightship. With all the other things Harbour Lights and Younger & Associaties are doing, why can't they make at least one?

Don't count Anchor Bay out. After a few USCG boats, I would suspect it would be time for a lightship. If they produce one, it would be wise to make a popular one. That fact would insure a sell out. I would like to see the Nantucket LS produced. It's red (I'm partial to red!) It is a popular lightship. I think the one that was restored and docked in Wareham, Massachusetts, is headed for Nantucket and will be available for functions, etc. I'm sure the rental won't be cheap though. Bob

Good choice Bob, especially since it's now part of the National Lighthouse Museum since March 30, 2002. Nantucket LS 112

Here's another "red" Lightship that would be a nice pick: The Frying Pan - I just love the name! Here's one that I was thinking about. It's from Ireland (and just so happens to be red). I think its cute because it looks as though it has an actual lighthouse on the ship (Kind of looks like the Mobile Point Light, Alabama painted red and placed on a boat ). Take a look: South Rock Lightship Here's another site with a closer picture: South Rock Lightship

Harbour Lights can look at production numbers and sales numbers for each Anchor Bay piece and see what is selling well (comparitively). Add that to consumer demand, if there is any, and that should inform HL on what may be a potential hot seller.

another note I found interesting: Noah's Collectors whatever they call themselves (in many major malls) has carried HL for a few years now. They have suddenly increased their Anchor Bay offerings. Mostly they are not carrying the lightships, but the other ships.

There are two Nantucket Lightships around and I believe the Bobs may be speaking of the different ones.
As Pete mentions, some of the Anchor Bays, if not all, may just not be selling well enough to justify further productions.

I believe you're right Sue (and Bob). Wasn't that the one on ebay that was in Boston, that someone bought privately and turned into an office somewhere in the harbor? The names and marking on these lightships are a history in themselves!

There are three Nantucket Lightships, I think. I saw two in one day last year. One was in Wareham, Massachusetts, and the other in New Bedford, Massachusetts next to the Coast Guard Station. I believe the third Nantucket LS is in Connecticut. I think the Lightships sold better than the other AB boats, not including the USCG vessels. Are there any official numbers on how many were produced compared to sales? Bob

Nantucket would be an excellent choice. However I'm a bit partial to the "Overfalls" located in Lewes, Delaware. In either case, I just wish they would produce one of them...or anyone, for that matter...
Its about time for something!!

Time to stir the pot, Brent! Start a new topic in the Wish List forum about the "Overfalls". Include a photo if you can. Muster up as much support as you can. The folks from Harbour Lights are aware of what appears in the forum. They listen to their collectors. Many of the current HL pieces were made because collectors asked for them. Make a wish! Your dream may come true! Bob

Brent the only thing about the Overfalls that is in Lewes Delaware is that it is the old Boston Lightship and was brought there after it was decommisioned by the Coast Guard by the Lewes Historical Society. In fact it still had Boston on it when it was brought there. It never served on the Overfalls station. To me that would be very misleading. If Harbour Lights was to make the Overfalls do the Relief WAL 605 that is now in Calif. That ship served as the Overfalls in the 50s and later was moved to the west coast as the Blunts Reef Lightship and later was made a Relief Lightship. Hal

Now if you want a unique lightship, how about the St Johns Lightship. It was painted Yellow. With St Johns in black letters on the sides.

I'm not particular at all. Be it a lightship or CG vessel as long as they bring out one or two a year. It would be nice if they brought both a lightship and CG vessel out. This would keep everyone happy. I've still got 4 empty glass cases that I have to use up and some room left on top of my curios.

Still kinda hoping for the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. Maybe they can team it with the Cheboygan crib light, it's home port.

I asked about any new releases for Anchor Bay while I was participating in the chat last Wednesday. The reply was no announcement will be made with the revealing of the second half of the year releases for 2003, but there is a good chance you will see a new AB release before the end of this year.

I would like to see A.B. river boats Late 19 century river boat with paddle. Everyone loves a riverboat, maybe as much as a lighthouse. Make the first 250 gold-plated pewter like the Golden gate Bridge. Needs to be a famous Mississippi river boat.
