I recently got what I thought was a fairly good deal on a Lightship Huron . . . $100.00.

I've noticed that the anchor chains are attached only to the ship, not to the water. My Chesapeake sculpture has the ends attached to the water, making it appear that they go into the water and, presumedly, to anchors underwater.

I'd appreciate it if someone would describe to me the configuration of the chains on his or her sculpture of the Huron. I'd like to restore mine to its correct appearance.

Bruce, I guess I have two that are like yours. The chains are lose and laying on top of the water. I'm not sure where they go if they are supposed to be like Chesapeake. There doesn't appear to be a spot they would fit in or connect to. That makes three loose and 1 attached. Whats everbody else got? We must have the shortcut versions? LOL

With mine, it appears that the chains are exposed at the top of the water but there is a point where it "goes in". 'Never noticed it before but then I've only had mine about a month. Good observation, Lightseeker!

addendum: mine is attached, however, right near the lower portal is a wave and the chain "lays" on that wave then goes into the water. The number of mine is #661

I too have the lose anchor chain on my #46. I bought mine when it first came out on auto shipment. I have checked around at several dealers to see if their display models had lose chains. I notice it to be very common to find the Huron with non-attached chains. I called Harbour Light's Customer service and asked if the chain should be attached. The Lady I talked to checked with someone, then came back and told me that they should be attached. I informed her that there was many of them that weren't. She said she would pass that information on.

Bruce I definitely wouldn't glue it. My guess is that the early ones had the lose chain and was later corrected.
What is the number on yours? It would be interesting to know the numbers for the Hurons and if they have a lose chain or attached.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Mine is #3577, so it apparently occurred in both early and late ones.

As Sean stated, there doesn't appear to be a spot they would fit into. They're relatively long, and if stretched out, would hit the tops of waves before reaching a spot to attach to. So I guess, unless someone else comes up with new info, I won't attempt to attach (reattach?) them.
