Things have been quiet in "Anchor Bay". If you follow eBay you will usually see a variety of the older ABs appearing on auction. They usually sell for around 50-60% of their retail price.

It's not often you will see the Anchor Bay Columbia or Portsmouth going for a such a reduced price. Also, I don't ever recall seeing the AB Coast Guard boat on auction.

My question is why did the older ABs lose their value as compared to the latest releases?

Inquiring minds from the East Coast, where we had less than one inch of snow at my house and yes, I am enjoying all those snowy pictures on the news from other parts of the country, would like to know.

Bob: My dealer was selling her AB's for $50 but she only had the older ones. She told me she quit receiving them after a while. If she couldn't sell the older ones why should she get any more. So....maybe there just aren't as many of those newer ones out there!?

For some reason I hate to see the Anchor Bay thread just disappear with no new posts for almost a month.

I was surprised there was only one response to my post about the Columbia and the Portsmouth. Has Anchor Bay sailed off into the sunset, never to return?

Shame there appears to be an end to Anchor Bay. I liked them almost as much as lights. Any reasons...price....I suppose?

For the most part, I'm a collector of lighthouses. Though I appreciate the Anchor Bay pieces, they just don't interest me. I do have one piece, and that's the Coast Guard 44 footer, and only because of my days working SAR (Search And Rescue) as a Coxswain (one who drives the boat).

Not to get off topic, I also have some reservations regarding the U.S. Lifesaving Stations coming out. I will purchase a piece or two, but that's about it. I'll have to special order these because the dealers I purchase from are also not interested in carrying the line. Either way, I'm a collector of lighthouses, thus my lack of interest in Anchor Bay. Great pieces, just not my cup of tea.

I have 5 AB's and I think they are extremely well done, but, the only reason that I have the one's that I do is because I've gotten each one at about 50% of the normal retail price. As nice as they are its difficult to justify the price when you can go out and buy two LE's for the price of one AB. I would love to see HL continue with the AB line, but, IMHO, they're going to have to do something about the +$150 price-tag.

Hi Derek, ...Welcome to the CF (Collector Forums). AB stands for Anchor Bay, a fine line of collectible boats/ships that was produced by HL (Harbour Lights). Unfortunately, the AB Line didn't catch on as well as expected. Many of the HL collectors bought them but again many didn't. In a competition for expendable cash in a collector's pocket, the regular HL limited editions normally win out over the AB boats. There is only so much money the average person can afford to spend.

I hope you'll visit the CF often and share your thoughts, questions, and opinions!
