Time to take out that second mortage on the house! My bug (not the Y2K one) in the HL conference room came to life. The month of May will more than make up for the hiatus of the first part of the year.
Hudson River Series HL230 Hudson Athens, NY..........$78.....Late May HL231 Esopas Meadows, NY.....$70.....Late May HL232 Tarrytown, NY......................$75.....Late June
GLOWs HL402 Boston Harbor, MA......$55.....May HL403 S.E. Block Is, RI.............$55.....May
Society Pieces HL519 Mini Pt. Fermin, CA (Charter Member piece) $29...May HL521 7’ Knoll, MD...........$99.....May HL524 Baltimore Harbor, MD...Gift....May HL527 Sea Girt, NJ ornament..$15.....May HL528 Mini Pt. Fermin, CA (5yr Society piece)....$29...May
A certificate is required, of course, for all of the Society pieces.

Wow indeed. More NY lights! And Bravo for HL's continuation of the Mini line outside of reunion gifts.
Presumably the Charter Member Pt. Fermin mini is limited to Society members who joined in the first year. (And presumably is limited to those who are *still* Society members?) Releasing an Anniversary version (#528) continues the approach HL took with REXA and REXM of making a version of a 'special' piece more broadly available to Society members.
That means there probably will be some minor details on the Charter version that are not present on the Anniversary version - a nice tip o the hat to the founding membership. That also means there will be Four Fermins (Original 1st Year Society Fermin ('full size'), Charter Mini (CHAM), Five year Anniversary Mini (FYAM), and Ornament.)
For the newbies - the certificate to which the Fredster refers, will be a piece of paper sent by HL to Society Members; this must be used to order the Society pieces through your dealer or from HL. (Not the certificate currently being found in boxes.) Or so is my guess.

Getting a bit confused. How big are minis? Ornament size? Do these have seahorses too? Will need the hubble to find 'em.

Speaking as a collector...
My understanding is that to receive the "Charter Member" version of the mini-Fermin you needed to join in the 1995-96 membership year and have been a member each year since.
You have to be a member for the Society year 1999-2000 to purchase the 'regular' Point Fermin mini. Not sure if the charter members get to buy BOTH or not.
NOW is the time to renew your Society Membership if you're paid up only for the 1998-99 year. Not sure? Call HL 800-365-1219 M-F.
Now this creates a BIG problem for those "Buy 'em All" WACKOs who came late to the world of Harbour Lights collecting.
Assuming someone joined in 1995 AND remains a member today, at what price would they give up one of those "Charter Member" pieces? Seems like it will be very dear. However, quantities should be MUCH higher than the NPL Mini (480) and Rose Island Mini (700).
There were 6,511 Society purchasers of Point Fermin. Since not everyone who was a member didn't purchase Fermin, the number of members then (1995) could be higher. Now how many 1995 members remain members today? HL apparently knows because they will be mailing a redemption certificate for the "Charter Member" version.
Corrected Mini-Point Fermin per Jakescol below

Unbelievable!!! I understand rewarding those who have stuck with HL since the beginning, but if there is a "variation" between the two Pt. Fermin mini's then it's not fair to those trying to collect "all" the pieces. Anyway, thanks for all the info. Time to get a second job!!!!

Fred, I am very confused in some places. OK, now, I've noticed that you seem to be dodging the subject. Where did you find this out?
And Tim, I forget, what is REXA and REXM. Doesn't it have something to do with Rose Island?

Rose Island:
REXA - Reunion Exclusive Attendee REXM - Reunion Exclusive Member
You where allowed to purchase the member piece through a redemption voucher in 1998. The attendee piece was only given out at the reunion in Providence, RI in 1998.

>>I understand rewarding those who have stuck with HL since the beginning, but if there is a "variation" between the two Pt. And that ain't fair either. ;-> Just for you mr. greed, down in the Fog Signal Building I'm re-posting my mildly incendiary editorial from January of 1997 on the subject of the Rose Island Exclusive. Enjoy! A Blast from the Past For mombo - Mini's are smaller than LEs and bigger than ornaments which are bigger than thumbnails. They are a very nice size, small but extremely well detailed. As of today HL has created just two Minis, each given as a gift to attendees of each of the Reunions. New Point Loma mini at the first Reunion in San Diego, and Rose Island mini at the second Reunion in Providence. Looks like we can soon add the Point Fermin mini to these. Rgds, __ /im

Hand-touched? Is that something like a remarqued print, or does it mean that Bill (or someone else?) left fingerprints in the wet paint?

OK, so if you joined the Collector's Society in 1996, but have been able to purchase Pt. Fermin on the secondary market and have registered it, does that make you an almost-Charter-Member?

"Hand Touched" I've learned means that one of Harbour Lights origination painters will add a bit of color difference in the "Charter Member" piece; perhaps a bush will have different color flowers, or the boat may have a different color.
There will be no differences in the molds.
Those changes won't be uniform for each Charter Member piece, although they all will have SOME difference. Different catalog numbers, HL519 for Charter members, HL528 for those who came after the first year.
To qualify as a "Charter Member", you must have been a member in 1995-96 and rejoin, or renew for 1999-2000. It is NOT necessary that you have retained your membership for every year in between.
Spyglass minis were only available 1995-96 and 1996-97 as a Gift 1997-98 the gift was was Amelia Island GA and 1998-99 it is Cockspur GA

Sorry, I overlooked that Tim. Pardon me but I was hoping for something easy to pronounce and which appear to be 'cousins' (Like REXA and REXM) Maybe it should be "the five-one-nine" and "the five-two-eight"? Nahhhh Fair warning however, I won't always be able to answer questions you haven't thought of yet. ;-> You've done pretty well thus far, Tim.

The HL collectors society "slick" arrived today with pictures of the various society pieces. I am very excited about the society "freebie" piece of Baltimore Harbor (5"x5"). It really looks awesome in the photo complete with metal railings towards the bottom and around the top. A large wave is crashing along the side. Very nice for a free piece.
The Sea Girt ornament looks pretty nice also. Its hard to tell how the Pt. Fermin "mini" (3"x3") really looks without having something to scale next to it, but it appears to be very close in detail to her bigger sister.
A picture of the Mark Fermin "7 Foot Knoll" watercolor is also shown (free to renewing members). The Cloisonne pin is not pictured, but mentioned as a gift, same as in previous years.

Sounds like this is gonna be another banner year for Soiety members. I'm excited about it!
For pronouncability (is that a REAL word?), how about CHAM and FAM (no 'Y').

It took 2 Hrs and 57 Min for someone to figure that one out. The response time is slowing abit. Sean is on the button though!! Kind of gives a different perspective to the subject of the 7 foot knoll picture, though.(g)

Yeah Rod, how did you get your slicks so quickly ? I have been driving for 2 years on mine and they are not slicks yet, all though the back ones are a little chewed up from the chains all winter.
Thats the word from the midwest coast where the temp climbed into the 50's today and the 1/2 ton of snow in the back of my pickup has turned into 120 gallons of water and run out the back.

I called HL today to order the new Society pieces. As a Charter member I ordered the CHAM piece, but HL would not sell me FYAM. The order taker stated HL was still deciding if they would sell both pieces to Charter members, but currently they could not do this.
I was told I was the 2nd person who wanted to acquire both Minis, and the obviously non-Wacko-aware order taker asked me the totally ridiculous question "Why would you want them both?"
I heartily suggest to all Charter members they request to purchase both CHAM & FYAM.
Btw, thats really great looking water on the Baltimore Harbour light. Best since Le Jument.

I can't believe they wouldn't allow Charter Members to buy both minis! I (as an esteemed Charter Member ) plan on getting both.
There is no price I could set on my Pt. Fermin. I joined the society just to get it after I drove from Phoenix to San Pedro to see the real thing. It was my first HL. Very special.
I do need the ornament, though. If anyone has any connections to anyone who might be persuaded to give one up for $$, let me know!
