Has anyone actually seen this? Picture is not impressive IMHO!

I have seen it, shot the picture and I am impressed! I do believe, and have believed that it is a lighthouse that collectors are going to feel strongly about one way or the other. But as to the quality of the workmanship of the Harbour Lights version of the 1699 Eddystone there is no doubt, it is awesome!

The good news for you, Robert, is that the Eddystone is just one of what looks to be a great group of lighthouses being produced by Harbour Lights this year. Since the first Eddystone's are winding their way across the country at this moment, it won't be long before it will be on the shelves at the stores. You may still not like the lighthouse but I am willing to bet that you will be impressed by the job Harbour Lights has done in producing the Eddystone lighthouse.

The one thing that I wish was better is the paper flag. Harbour Lights has come out with their first fabric flag this year (wig wag man) and they are working on one on a lighthouse. I just wish it could have been the flag on the Eddystone.

I stopped in at my dealers today and he said he has rec'd the invoice for eddystone so I should get a look possibly tomorrow or at least friday.The delivery usually come 2 days after the invoice.I will go down to have a look but not interested in buying this piece.already have my Jan.& Feb orders in. Out..of...breath...frostbite on fingers...back from dealer...Eddystone in hand...such a long, brutal walk...must soak entire self in daquiri mix...

The review will be forthcoming, but here are a few tidbits, observation-wise:

Smaller than I expected.

More detailed than I expected (even after having been impressed with Paul's pix).

Feared it would look too much like a child's toy. Looks like a bona fide lighthouse to me...albeit it one built by a wacko.

Excellent packaging that protects the piece effectively, but very simply.

Debate will rage on whether or not this is a "Wow!™".

Retailers with open displays will go through a LOT of breakage if they don;t find a way to get this puppy behind glass.

But I like it!

After seeing the piece at my dealer's here in St. Louis yesterday, I have to admit that I like it too! No pictures that I have seen (and nobody's are better than Paul's!) have done this light justice. I still passed on it, and I know the controversy is really just beginning, but I'll reserve judgement from now on until I see each new light in person.

I got a call from my dealer that eddystone was in I had said that I would like to see it when it came in.Well I saw it this AM and it did not do a thing for me.I will admit it is well done as far as workmanship.I personally would rather have seen an american light for the anniversary piece.this I would have bought.As far as arube goldberg looking british piece no thanks I do have a good eddystone in my collection already.As far as history goes we have more than enough historical U.S. lights that haven't been produced yet.Bill O'Brien oseabee

Picked up my Eddystone this afternoon. I would have bought it anyway because of it's 10th anniversary status, but now that I have it I am glad I did purchase it. The detail is incredable. It is definately a piece that deserves to be sat down with and observed closely through a magnifing glass with a dab of Jack Daniels. Yes, a cloth flag would have been nicer but it is a start. The size to me is about right. It seems to fit nicely with the other international pieces that I have. I thinks that this is a "Love It" or "Hate It" piece and will draw it share of comments.

I had the opportunity to see "the real thing" while stationed overseas...and I must admit the HL version is an Excellent one!! I agree that the paper flag leaves a bit to be desired, but, other than that, HL did a supberb job. A hearty "congratulations" to Bill & Co. for a piece well done. 'Well worth the hundred bucks!!

We picked up Eddystone over the week-end from our dealer. It is most definitely a piece you will either love or hate. To us it makes another great edition to our collection. When you compare it to HL101 you see how far Harbour Lights has come in 10 years.

Eddystone has arrived in Delaware. Got a call from my dealer tonight. Looking forward to checking this one out up close in detail .

I picked up mine over the week-end in the Twin Cities. I also think that people will either love it or hate it. I love it! Can anyone explain the flag? Also, can anyone interpret the latin? Way to go HL!

what is the Latin on the light?? I studied Latin in HS and might be able to help with the translation. I still have an English-Latin dictionary!

My husband saw the Eddystone Light at our usual dealer lst week. He described it as "weird". He couldn't remember the name, but I knew exactly what he was talking about! Haven't seen it in person yet.

We picked ours up yesterday. The first one out of the box had the flag deck broken off so we got the store's second piece. While very different, it is an amazing piece.

I picked my Eddystone Light up at my Dealer last night. WHAT A WONDERFUL PIECE! The pictures from Paul were great but the detail on this light is something you have to see to believe. I love it

I saw the Eddystone at a dealer's today, and really like it a lot. I thought I'd like it after seeing Paul's excellent photos, but sometimes a first-hand view changes things. The scale, which a photo of course can't convey, is sometimes a disappointment; this one seems just right to me. And to echo everyone else, the detail is incredible!

I'll be waiting impatiently for my regular dealer to get them in, so I can bring one home.

Incidentally, the one I saw today had a price tag stuck right in the middle of the 10th Anniversary Label on the bottom of the piece. Fortunately, my dealer learned some time ago that doing that isn't a really great idea!

Hey Bruce, ...I can't agree with you more about the practice of sticking price tags on HLs. This is off the subject so I won't rant here. Watch for a new topic on this elsewhere on the CF.

I haven't seen the real thing yet (Eddystone) but my "new" dealer has one enroute to my home. Pictures looks great but I will reserve my final opinion for when it arrives.

Until then I will remain on the East Coast where it's 31 degrees and a major snow storm is headed our way.

I just received my Eddystone from my new dealer, Bayside Treasures. What a wonderful piece, no assembly required!

It's great to get a piece on time. I ordered it last Thursday or Friday and received it today. I'm on autoship with them now so I'll be getting all the new HLs on time for a change!

The photos of this piece were great but the actual piece in person is even greater! This will definitely be a classic! Don't miss out on this piece. Don't walk, run to your dealer and order one today!

Is the Eddystone model made out of a different material? I was surprised that it felt so light when I picked mine up.

I picked up mine yesterday and was impressed with the workmanship and detail. I was suprised with the size. IMHO it's a bit small to carry such a hefty price. It is a neat piece and sure to generate discussion.

Just received mine today.....I think it is great. Much better in person than the pictures reflect.

My Eddystone #26 arrived today from Oregon. It was the first time I've seen one and, while I'm obviously biased, I think it is the finest sculpture yet by Harbour Lights.

The detail is fantastic. The sculpture is interesting and unique. We'll need to get Harry Hine to come to a future chat to take credit for the piece and to share with us some of the story of Eddystone!

It is a perfect celebration of what the Youngers and Harbour Lights have done over the past 10 years.

A new standard in packaging and painting. The waves are fantastic and the 'gingerbread' of the various arms and wind vane break new ground.

Kudos to the Youngers, Kudos to Harry and Kudos to the nameless sculptor whose talents were well-chosen to celebrate "Ten Years of Light".

Get out your strongest magnifying glass, sit down in your easy chair next to a bright light and spend 30 minutes being amazed by the detail. How DID they get that perfect engraving on the 'slate' plaques? Especially the one just above the door at the base of the lighthouse?

Can you imagine being assigned to climb out on that walkway and raise and lower the flag each day?

Lots of places for the hippocampus to hide. Anybody spot it yet?

Bonus question: Where on Eddystone does it say "Anno Dom 1699"?

Anno Dom 1699 can be found above the bottom level door and just above the first copper dome on three spots. Total of four locations. Still trying to find the hippocampus.

I haven't taken Latin for 25 years, so fogive me if this is not exact! Latin doesn't exactly translate well (not word for word)- sometimes you get a group of words, or an idea, from one word.

Isn't there more Latin on the Eddystone??? Keep it coming- I'll do my best to translate!

I finally saw this one in person yesterday. It disappoints me to pass on the 10th Anniversary piece. The detail is terrific but the piece doesn't do anything for me.
