Another disappointed sigh...oh well, at least one of the Great Lakes Series pieces was finally made into a Spyglass version...

Actually, Rock, the ornaments are very, very nice looking when seen in person. I do like Paul's perspective on them. I also think Harry came up with a really cool design with the lantern room top on them. Some may complain about the pricing, but take a trip to your Hallmark store and look at the pricing on their ornaments!

These ornaments also ship in a clear plastic clamshell like package, a new concept for HL. This would allow the dealers to put them out on the shelves and on display without having to take them out of the package. Maybe Paul will post a picture of one in its package.

I must agree with Dave. A couple of weeks ago I purchased two complete sets of the new Christmas lights -- one for my brother and one for me.

They are absolutely gorgeous. What a unique design! They are beautiful to behold.

I actually prefer the older style of HL Christmas ornies. Collectors could display them as minature lighthouses along with the rest of their collection, if they wanted to.

The new style ornaments look like they should be hung from a Christmas Tree, and when the tree comes down so do the ornaments. That means the average collector would only display them for a week up to a month at max. I don't know anyone who leaves their tree up longer than a month.

Now the $64,000 question: Will I buy them? Time will tell, I have to see them in person first.

 Bob

It's hard to tell from the pictures but what is the actual size of the ornaments?

Lori, we are at my son's home for the weekend but I will masure them and post the size when we get home Sunday afternoon.. I would say they are probably 3 to 4 inches tall, the lighthouse inside is probably about the same size as the former lighthouse ornaments.. I will shoot a comparision picture, also..

Bob,

A collector could still display them in thier collection- it looks like they sit flat on a surface.

Correct me if I'm wrong here- but aren't Christmas ornaments by design a seasonal thing and only expected to be displayed for a short time every year?

I don't pretend to have the only method hers but I only display my HL Christmas Ornaments at christmas time. I've run out of room on my two special 2 ft trees though. i'll have to look into some 3 ft trees this year.

Yes, Dennis, they are designed to either sit on a flat surface or hang from a tree..

To All,

The lighthouses in the new Christmas ornaments average two (2) inches.

The ornaments themselves are four (4) inches tall.

Our house has several Christmas trees. We keep them up from Thanksgiving weekend through late January. We have many friends and family who visit us for the holidays in January.

I'm still not sure I will be buying these ornaments. I'd like to save my money for next years LE's.

You can buy a few at a time. They are not sold as a complete set, and are not listed as timed items. So, they will presumably be available as long as there is stock available.

However, as you probably realize, Tony is not prone to order a lot of product just because they are getting low. The minimum orders China is requiring is causing him to have to think carefully about re-orders.

ANd to further confuse things, don't forget the ornament versions for Key West and Sea Pines that will be available only from their own gift shops.

Dave,

Pardon my ignorance -- but what do you mean by this statement? I must be having another senior moment. Must have slept again last night.

Now, Bob, you were at the Door County regional event. As you may recall, at dinner Tony shared with everyone that there would be two special versions of the ornaments that had been produced exclusively for these two lights. I believe that Tony told me the Sea Pines folks would have their ornament by probably mid November, but the Key West one would most likely not be in until the first of the year.

I just think these ornaments are so classy looking. And, have to remember that these are hand cast and painted unlike the mass produced plastic ones that cost the same or more.

Good Monday Morning!

First, I have managed several Christmas lines and Ornaments are no longer only for trees! You can use them for decoration on tables - on the mantle on bookshelves. you can enjoy these ornaments all year long!

Key West FL is receiving their EXCLUSIVE ornament in mid-November
Sea Pines is receiving their exclusive ornament after 1 January 2008!

I like the new ornaments. I am going to have my husband make a display case just for them, that I can hang on the wall.

One year my mother-in-law did leave the Christmas Tree up all year. My daughter was just under 2 years old and cryed when we started to take the tree down. So it stayed up.
