At a signing in Arizona, Bill mentioned that the 1991-2001 Anniversary edition of The Eddystone Light is just the first of a planned series showing this lighthouse over the years.

There have been 5 or 6 different lighthouses on the Eddystone; next year's depicts the second tower, built over the remains of the first one. No telling when others might be released.

Bill also mentioned that HL is looking at the possibility of having some of the 'gingerbread' being provided detached with instructions on how to affix the 'extras'. Whether this happens remains to be determined yet.

The photo on display drew a lot of attention and discussion. A few orders were written for the piece at the signing.

St. John,

Here are the lyrics to a song we grew up singing as children concerning this light.

Yo ho, here's a tale, that's near and dear to the hearts of those who sail, 'bout a lighthouse keeper and his mermaid wife, who joined together for a different life, yo ho the winds and waters fill this tale.

My father was the keeper of the Eddystone Light, he married a mermaid one fine night, from this union there came three, a porpoise, and a porgie, and the othere was me

Chorus
Yo, ho, ho, the wind blows free, all for a life on the rolling sea.

Late one night I was swimmin' the glen while singing a verse from an evening hymn, a voice from statboard shouted ahoy, and there was me mother sittin' on a buoy.

Chorus

Tell we what has become of my children three, me mother she did ask of me. One was exibited as a talking fish, the other was served on a chafin dish

Chorus

Then the phosphous flashed in her seaweed hair, I looked again and me mother wasn't there. A voice came echoing out of the night, You'll never take the keeper of the Eddystone Light.

Chorus

Moby

I could hear you singing, Moby. Are you coming to the reunion? You can perform for all of us!

Hi Moby,
You left out the last verse ---

Oh the moral of the story you'll learn when you find
To leave God's creatures for what nature had in mind
For fishes are for cookin', mermaids are for tales
Seaweed is for sushi and protecting is for whales

Chorus

Darlene

Looks like it came out of a Jules Verne novel. I keep waiting for flames to erupt from it's base and take off! "First Lighthouse on the Moon".

Even though no one asked, don`t like it,don`t plan on buying it.I never planned on having a "complete" collection and thats the only reason I "would" buy it.Thank goodness for HL that we`re not all the same.

Terry: You are certainly entitled to your opinion. If I don't like them I say so too! Of course we are only two folks and the numbers will speak for the masses. It will certainly be intersting to see how it sells.

Maybe this will be one that needs to be seen before it's appreciated.

Quite a few of us expressed doubts about Liberty Enlightening the World before we saw it too.

Actually Mombo, I also do not see this version of Eddystone, ever joining my collection. I said the same about SOL, and I still do not think SOL is a lighthouse. Don't get me wrong HL did a wonderful job with it. SOL just doesn't do anything for my collecting side, so I do not want it.

One thing I have learned is to wait until I see the finished product before passing final jugment. I have seen pictures of some of the upcoming releases and thought they were ones I had to have. And some that I could do without. Then when I saw them in person it was sometimes the other way around.

I.O. bought me Lady Liberty. If it were my money it would probably still be in my pocket. Not that I don't like it. It just wasn't a had to have.

Good point, Mombo. When I saw Cape Henlopen in the catalog, I drooled over it. But when I saw it in person, it just looked kind of hokey. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that one!

On the other hand, Hudson-Athens was as far off of my wish list as you could get...but when I saw it..."Wow!"

Eddystone? Definitely one of those "Wait and See" Lights.

Like you, Sue, I wasn't excited about Lady Liberty at first. I must admit it did grow on me and it occupys a prime top shelf spot in one of my curios. I have also received many favorable comments about it.

I agree with you, Bill, on the Eddystone Light being a "wait and see". It looks to "fictious".

I buy them all so it will become part of my collection. Now whether I display it or not is another question with an answer of "to be announced".

Hi Mombo,

I expressed in the original thread of the Eddystone that it didn't look like one I would be buying. In fact, I called it ugly.

Bill,

I was also looking forward to Cape Henlopen when I first saw it and then when I received it, it was a disappointment. Hokey is a good word for it. The little people just look so fake.

When viewing the picture of this light that came in the legacy I had a horrible thought. Are any of the parts of this light plastic? I sent an email to Maureen at HL and she said she would check with Harry on Monday and get back to me. I also wondered if any of those white doors/windows would open and close and she said that they would not.

Having read a book on Eddystone, I have to admit that I'm excited and looking forward to the sculpture. Looks just like the drawings that I saw. I'll be happy to add it to my collection.
