I've had a chance to hold in my hands the early 2002 releases from Harbour Lights. IMO there isn't an 'average' piece among them - especially the limited editions.

The theme for 2002 is "Seasons of Change."
Among the changes I've found are an even greater dedication to detail and a larger scale for LEs. The GLOWs also seem to have a slightly smaller scale -- although I've not measured these to see for certain.

Hendricks Head ME, Fort Tompkins NY, Hannibal MO, and Monomoy Point MA have huge 'footprints' -- with lots of interesting things to look at throughout that space.

How do these LEs compare to past ones? If you have a Pemaquid ME LE or a Hillsboro Inlet FL LE, you'll get an idea.

Hendrick's Head has a footprint of over 9" x just under 6". Even Race Rock NY has a base that's 7x6". Fort Tompkins is 8x5.5". Hannibal is 8.5x4". Monomoy Point MA is 7.5 x 6.5".

As for detail, Hannibal, for example, has vignettes of Huck and Tom - the fence is partially whitewashed with the bucket and brushes left behind. Several windows are open in the house with blue curtains blowing in the wind; in the open kitchen window sits a pie ready for taking. Below the lighthouse tower is a raft, ready to be launched.

Hendrick's Head has a very large keeper's home, the light tower and the bell tower. Plus a canoe and a row boat. Potted plants sit on the back porch full or flowers in bloom.

Monomoy Point MA has the very large keepers house, an out-building and lots of evidence of serious maintenance underway - paint cans, ladder, tool box and more. The tower is one that has those unique exterior 'wire' stabilizers - four in total. Surprisingly they aren't wire - but elastic string.

This will save your heart several times undoubtedly. Imagine picking it up and realizing how easy it would be to bend those 'wires'. Smart, very smart indeed.

IMO these larger pieces represent good value. Hannibal, Monomoy, Hendrick's, Point Iroquois, Race Rock and Rock of Ages average about $69 each. In 1996 Pemaquid Point ME was $90 with an edition size of 9,500; the edition sizes for the limiteds are between 5,000 and 6,500.

Looks like Bill H is going to be kept busy writing WOW reviews in 2002!

Cool details! I hope that painter painting the fence didn't take one to many steps backwards.

Great pictures John! Thanks for sharing some of these details with us. How does Ft. Thompkins look? In the preview shot the colors seem kind of bland looking?

Tompkins is cooler than the original photo - it kind of looked then like a Sheila wooden piece. But it's very nice.

The shirt and pair of pants appear to be made of pewter, hanging on a thread.

Well, JC, you certainly have my collectible interest at a new all-time high! The making of Race Rock made my HL year before it even started, and then to have Monomoy to also add...that is definitely a WOW as Bill H would say.

Those clothes are so stiff looking I thought perhaps John had the winter version?

Yes Tim. With a halogen desk lamp for illumination.

Thanks for the early view of the pieces, John. You are correct about the sizes of the "footprints". They are oversized as compared to most of those of the past. I'm looking forward to their release.
