Looking at Bob Scroope's 3-year-old "Favourite of the original 17" post, I thought it could be fun to do a year-by-year of everyone's favourite HLs. If this takes off, I'll post a new one every few days.

Anyway...I guess you'd start right after the Original 17 with 1992. Here's the page on the HL Site: 1992 HLs

As for mine...

I love the SE Block. It's a piece, like St. George's Reef, that's incredibly detailed for its time. It still has that cool early HL allure, but with a bit of a modern twist...

Portland Bwater is cool...a neat little piece, and another one I just discovered. It's a cool light in reality, and HL did this one well.

Old Mack looks great, with the exception of the lantern room. This looks pretty good except for the lack of any detail up top. They didn't even make windowpanes!

I'm going to let someone else who knows HLs better give a "definitive" opinion of the year as a whole, but I think that these are some nice pieces. They don't have the "fable factor" of the O17 (sounds like a British spy agency), but they still have the "cute factor."

What are your opinions on the year and its pieces? Let's have fun with this! laugh

Portland Head and SEBlock are the big favorites in this year but my sleeper in the group is the little greecian Portland Breakwater. On my first trip to Maine, I fell in love with this unique lighthouse.

My personal fave is Minot's Ledge, MA (have both blue and green water versions)...but the sticker on the bottom of both says "1991"...

1992 was a great year for HL's! I really like the New England Series. Here's the order of how I like them from the best to not the best:

Southeast Light Block Island (favorite)
New London Ledge (absolutley a great HL)
Nauset Light (love the red & white)
Portland Breakwater (extremely well made)
Whaleback (extremely well made)
Minots Ledge (a little plain but nicely done)
Portland Head (always felt they made it too small)

Tough decision as usual! I like the Portland Breakwater #1 and Minot's Ledge in second place. 1992 was a banner year for New England lights. HL made 7 New England LIghts that year and I love everyone of them.

Of the Great Lakes series, it's a toss up between Split Rock and Cana Island. Of the New England series, the only one I have is New London Ledge, which I really like. I do like Portland Breakwater as well though. Nausett Beach is nice too. Awe heck, I like 'em all!

I believe I like the New England Series in total better than any of the Great Lake Series. I had never even heard of any of the lighthouses put out by Harbour Lights in 1992 before I started collecting. The first that caught my eye was New London Ledge, CT, along with Southeast Block Island, RI. I then found Minots Ledge, MA, then Nauset Beach, MA, and finally Portland Head, ME. To try and put them in some order would not be fair to the others. All I can say is that New England has some very beautiful lighthouses that I would truly love to see.
