We will be passing through Charleston on our upcoming vacation. Where is the best place to view and photograph Morris Island? Also is the new light at Sullivans Island accessible?

To best see Morris Island from the land, go to the north end of Folley Island until the road ends. You park there and then take a short walk through what appears to be an old abandoned military type area to the beach.

You can walk up quite close to Sullivan's Island light but its not open to the general public. A public beach trail goes right by it.

Hope this helps
John

You can get a very nice view of most of sullivans Island if you stop at the fire house just a few blocks away.

Park in the side lot and then climb up the hill next to the lot. There is a roadway but it has a chain across it.

There was no sign saying anything about keeping out when i was there in Feb. You don't get the whole Lighthouse, but you get a good view of the Lantern room and about the top half of the light.

I got some nice pictures of it at just about sunset.

You can get a very long view picture of Sullivans Island from Morris Island. I got a shot of both with Sullivans Island Lighthouse on.

It's much more difficult to get a picture of morris Island from Sullivan's Island.

You can get some nice shots of Sullivan's Island from the boat out to Ft. Sumter. You get a long view of morris Island on the way out. It's a nice tour if you have the time.

Don't believe the docent at the dock- there was a Lighthouse on Ft. Sumter. It's even mentioned in the brochure.

There's a nice place for lunch right at the corner where you make the left in Folley Beach (can't recall the name) where the road ends.

Hope this helps.

Dennis
