I've finally put together the pages for two very special, very different trips that I've opened the 2008 lighthousing season with.

The first is NELL's Lighthousing, Hot Chocolate and You trip, to the South Shore of Massachusetts. This was an incredible trip, with some unique opportunities. The page for that trip is:

Also, on Saturday, I celebrated my 18th Birthday (28 Jan) by driving into New York City legally for the first time (the drive through the Lincoln Tunnel to park at Port Authority a few weeks ago won't count wink ). I hit the lights of Staten Island, close to my home but formerly off-limits because of the driving restrictions by the city. That page is here:

I think I might have a lighthousing slump until April, when I'm planning on seeing lights in England, as well as perhaps Maine and New Brunswick. But, you never know! I'm also hoping to get more essay-type articles together. (And, for those who have been waiting, the Cunarders in NYC page will be coming soon.)

Enjoy!

Congratulations on the 18th. birthday Now you only need the cash for the gas to go far and wide. I lived not far from the New Dorp light and it took for ever to find it. I guess fate steped in because when I did find it the owner was getting into a car and I asked permission to take a picture. She said no problem.
Check out the Long Island Lighthouse challenge next or at least some of the lights on Long Island like Montauk and Fire Island.

Greg,

First, a belated Very Happy Birthday.
Second, two great reports on your lighthouse adventures. Yes LHHC&Y was great! I have yet to get to the lights on Staten Island, your report is giving me a yen to get going.
