I know there's several Chesapeake Bay lighthouses here, any of you know of any charters or trips that go by, Fort Carrol and Lazzetto Light in Baltimore? I've done the Google search and Baltimore.com search and have turned up nil. I can't get close enough to Fort Carrol to get any pix of it, and post 9-11 security issues, I'm not even going to try to get in to the wharf to get pix of Lazzetto.

Aaron, check with Harbor Cruises, (Bay Lady, Lady Baltimore & Prince Charming) at 800-695-BOAT or 410-727-3113. I did a harbor tour many years ago and at that time they did go out and pass Fort Carroll.

I've looked at them before in the past, on their web site, they have a cruise to Annapolis, but I wonder how close they get to either light. THose boats are a good size so I'd think they'd be out a bit in the main channel.

Don't remember what boats HL used for the Reunion, but we passed between Fort Carroll and the north shore where you could see Lazaretto Point. Could be a problem if there is a ship berthed at the plant with Lazaretto Point, but you could get a decent pic if you were paying attention and "shot ahead" before you actually passed it. We were close enough to get decent pictures of Fort Carroll.

Dave, how decent of a shot were you able to get of Lazaretto Point shooting ahead. The most i have to work with is a 300mm that comes out to be 450 on the digital SLR. Ugh, I think I am going to need to find someone with a boat!

I was using my 28-200. Worked fine. You should have no problem. I'll see if I can find one of the prints to scan later.

a pretty good shot of Lazaretto can be taken from Ft. McHenry shooting across the water. I was there earlier in the summer and was pretty happy with the pics I got.

I was wondering if I could get a decent shot from Fort McHenry or not. So Fort Carrol is going to be the hard one to get.

If you can't find a boat to get a closer view to Ft. Carroll, what about a driving buddy? That way you can have your camera ready as you pass the light while your buddy is driving across the Key Bridge.

Not sure if I could see over the railing. I don't have an SUV so I sit pretty low to the ground.

aaron, So beg borrow or rent a truck or SUV. It's got to be easier and cheaper than a boat. If you are a true Lighthouse Wacko little things like this problem won't stand in your way Dennis

Aaron, the boats that were used for the HL Reunion in Baltimore are the boats with the Harbor Cruises. You won't really need your 300mm for Lazaretto or Fort Carroll. I would invest in the cruise and I'm sure you will get great shots even if there is a ship, which there was with the HL cruise, going out and coming back in.

LOL, in that case Dennis, I'd just invest in the boat Hmm, I guess, I'll have to look at the HL way then. I really hate my 300mm zoomed all the way out, to a point I was debating whether to get an 80-400VR or an 80-200 which is a better lens. Ok, ok, not going to let a lighthouse dictate a two thousand dollar lens selection Aaarrrggghhhh, must.... buy.... used.... crab boat...now! Man, the wife ain't gonna like that!
