OK, Forum Family, it's time to roll out the 2004 Limited Edition Version of the Wacko Badge! As you may recall, the lighthouse selected for support from the Forum members this year is Esopus Meadows, NY .

The Save Esopus Lighthouse Commission has accomplished quite a bit of work in the past few years. Several of our members have been able to visit the light, and some have even been able to help work on the light.

Hopefully, by the end of the year, when everyone has had the opportunity to order their badges, we will be able to give the Commission a gift in the vicinity of $1,000. With your help we can reach this goal.

For those that don't know the history of theses badges, this will be the fourth badge. The first was done in 2001 to be used at the Baltimore Reunion. Proceeds were given to St. George Reef Light in California. These badges were available only to those that attended the Reunion, and were very popular. Because of this, the project was continued in 2002 (Block Island Southeast) and 2003 (Bodie Island). The badges compliment the Wacko Pins that will be sold sometime this spring. It is a fun way to support lighthouse preservation and to have a way to recognize those other members of the Forum Family you have only "met" on the internet. And, no, you don't have to have achieved the coveted "Wacko" ranking in the Forums.

As they were last year, the badges will be $6 each (postage included). You may pay by check or by using PayPal. You can order a badge for yourself, your spouse, your kids, your pets, whatever. Just remember to order early and order often! There are a few "Harbour Lights Wacko" lanyards left (probably about 30) and they are $3 each. When they are gone they will not be reordered this year.

I just ordered a Wacko badge for myself and my wife. Will send the money order for $12.00 on either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

The way the form is set up, you have to put something in every blank for it to complete. Sorry, I can't change that. If you don't belong to a club, just put in none or even just a single letter. I'll figure it out......

If you belong to a HL collector club and I have a copy of the club logo, it will be printed on the back of the badge. The clubs I have logos for are Hoosier, Beacon Brigade, Derby, Desert, Gateway, Eastern GL, So Cal. If your club has a logo and I haven't listed it, someone needs to get me a JPEG copy.

If you don't belong to a HL club, but do belong to another lighthouse preservation group (LI Chapter, Chesapeake Chapter, etc) I will be glad to list that as your club. Just won't print their logo on the back. In any case, I will list only one club so you have to either pick the one you want listed or buy multiple badges......

I LOVE my new badge. Especially the NELL logo. I put the two (2004 + 2003) back to back, so now, my constant "flipping in the wind" problem has been solved. It looks great--especially with Shirin's green shutters that I DID Sharpie on!

Dave, you do a great job with these. You go above and beyond, like when you mailed mine to Dennis to make sure I got it for LHHC&Y. They look great, too! Y'know, you could market the idea to other forums...or PATENT IT!

A reminder to those who have been putting off acquiring their badge in time for the Saint Augustine event - you have until Tuesday morning to get yours ordered for delivery at the event.

At our club meeting last weekend, one of our members shared a story of the power of the Wacko badge and lantern. The story involved, a lighthouse not normally viewed up close, but because she was wearing her lanyard and badge, the gatekeeper knew she was a serious lighthouse lover!

Remember, order early and order often to help benefit the Esopus Meadows light.
