Just thought I would share with you all my interest in collecting Harbour Lights Collectibles.
Amateur Radio operators (HAMS) operate what's called a "Special Event Station" from selected Lighthouses each year to celebrate National Lighthouse Day. They transmit from the lighthouse or its property and mail certificates as verification of contact with all stations worked on the air.
I have verified contacts with the Montauk, Sandy Hook, and Barnegat lighthouses, so needless to say, my collection will begin with these three. After seeing my very first HL in a collectible shop this morning... I have to say, nothing else compares.
HL lighthouses will be a fantastic addition to my Amateur Radio collection.
I will be hunting lighthouses on the air next year and hopefully have new contacts to log and HL's to collect.

Best Wishes & Happy Collecting,

Mike Hatala - Holiday, Fl.

Welcome Mike -- to the wonderful world of Harbour Lights.

I appreciated your information about the HAMS and the QSL cards they send out. I've got to admit to ignorance on national lighthouse day -- is that a HAM event or ??

Wow, that's really getting hooked fast. But you are right -- "Nothing else compares".

Keep reading the Forums, you'll find lots of great tips from seasoned collectors. Find one of the great guidebooks and check out all the stuff at www.HarbourLights.com

Mike,

Welcome to the wonderful hobby of HL collecting. I must say that you certainly deserve the award for finding this site so quickly after just seeing your first HL this morning. As was already mentioned, and I must agree, this site is full of dedicated collectors who are willing to help in many ways. It's nice to have a wonderful family of collectors and a place to share our opinions. I wish you good luck and fun in this new venture.

Ron

Mike, I'm responding to let you know that
you're not alone on your new venture in
HL collecting.... I started two weeks ago
and unlike most people in this forum, my
collection has grown to three lights. I
have joined the collectors society and
plan on increasing my collection whenever
my wife allows me to!!!!

I have always had a love of lighthouses
and HL's are a perfect way to show it. I
have already had many compliments from
friends who have seen my "tiny"
collection. Welcome to the club, and
from what I have seen here....a truly
devoted, helpful, and kind goup of
collectors.

Thank you Ron. The HL gang are a most helpful group. I'm very excited about collecting. I actually found this site by using a search engine after seeeing a "Harbour Lights" sticker on a piece at the gift shop.

Wow... That's quite a start! I'm currently reading Guardians Of The Lights by Elinor De Wire. Excellent book! Also visited another HL dealer this morning and have yet another local to check-out tomorrow.
This is going to be an interesting hobby.

Mike
