I am flying out to the Portland area next month for a week. The first two days are already booked with activities, but I'll have another five to possibly see all the OR land lights, as well as southwest WA and Astoria. My friends and I are debating taking one of their motorhomes down the coast for this trip. Has anyone done this before? I'm a little concerned we could end up in an area we can't get out of!

My sister and I were fortunate to stay at Heceta Head B&B, they were very welcoming and the food out standing. We saw the Oregon lights to the north and south as well as 2 in CA and 2 in WA, Feb. 2009. We were in a rental car and had no problem with roads. The light was dark at Heceta for repair but other than that our trip was wonderful.Laura posted photos 3-10-09 in this section. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Will you get to see Heceta at night? Hope to see photos....

Oregon Coast has lots of campsites. I didn't camp along the coast but as a camper remarked to MaryAnn several times that this would be a great RV trip. I don't think there's any tough places, most are in parks. Coquille you can camp right there,

Thanks for the input. I hope we can spend at least one night watching a light shine. We'll have to see how things work out...

Okay, so no motorhome on this trip, but we did spend a night "on the coast." After a late start on Tuesday, we made it to Cape Meares and Tillamook Cheese before dark. We spent the night at Lincoln City and left early for Newport. The high winds on Wednesday had Yaquina Head closed until noon, which worked out well since we spent some of the time going through the interpretive center. We stopped at Yaquina Bay before pressing on to Heceta Head. It was late in the afternoon (missed the open hours for the tower) but worth the climb up from the parking lot. We were there long enough for the light to come on but couldn't stay until darkness settled in. Maybe next time...

For those of you looking for pics, I'll take a crack at posting some once I finish sorting through the hundreds I took the whole week I was gone.

Await your photos of Oregon in the fall our trip was in Feb. With all the pine trees I wonder what the difference will be. I am sure it is beautiful!!
