The week after next I'll be in Buffalo for a few days on business. I will have Saturday afternoon and a few hours on Sunday morning to do some lighthousing. For those familiar with the area, I would appreciate any tips on which would be the best lighthouses to visit and suggestions on what route to take. Basically I'll have from about 2:00 on Saturday until 11:00 on Sunday at which time I'll need to be at the Buffalo airport. Anything in between is possible including where I spend the nite.

Any input is appreciated.

Larry

Here's our trip from last summer Larry. Maybe it will help you some. Sorry the photos are gone. Feel free to email me with any particular questions.

Larry let me know how your trip goes. I'll be in Buffalo in September before heading out to Michigan.

Perhaps the following site might help you get started.

Lots of info here too Larry:

Highly recommended for directions is The Penrose book, "A Traveler's Guide to 100 Eastern Great Lakes Lighthouses". Nice to own but if you don't have it maybe your library does?

Thanks for the input so far. I just ordered the Penrose book from Barnes & Noble. Should be here in a few days.

Any other suggestions?

Larry,

Fort Niagra is probably less than an hour from Buffalo. It is a very unique light in a pretty setting, well worth the visit even if you can't get inside.

As a bonus, look across the river and you will see a pair of Canadian range lights.

.

About an hour or so east of there is 30 Mile Point. This is a really beautiful light situated in a state park campground. I really wish we could have gotten into this one, as it looks to be very well restored and cared for.

Larry, when you get the Penrose book you will see that the directions tell you how to get to each light separately. I'd pick up a NY State Road Map to help you get from one to the other.

This is probably too late for Larry but I just got back last night from a trip to Rochester, NY where in a day I took in Charlotte-Genesee, Braddock Pt, 30 Mile Pt, and Ft Niagara, all made possible by the Seaway Trail Lighthouse Guide. Had circumstances permitted, I could have included at least one or two more. This handy 46-page pocket-size guide provides clear directions to pretty much all the NY lights on Lakes Erie & Ontario plus the St. Lawrence River. I don't have a phone number to call to order one (maybe someone out there does?) but the address to write to is: Seaway Trail, P.O. Box 660, Sackets Harbor, NY 13685.
