Was just wondering who was going on Dave's latest
trip to Long Island besides me?

vhappy My wife and I are coming along on Dave's trip. We are looking forward to seeing lighthouses in that area. We have not been up in that area of the country before.

Hi Rotty,

Welcome to the Forums,
Where are you located in Florida?
I live in the Tampa Bay area.

Kay,

Unfortunately we will miss Dave's trip- we already had planned to go to NELL's meeting in Maine the following weekend and will spend some time in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine after the meeting.

I will be in your neck of the woods on 5-29. I have to fly down to FL to take care of some things at my sister's condo in Englewood and I'm meeting up with a friend in Tampa on the 29th. I'll be flying back out of Tampa Friday June 1st in the evening.

Sorry you can't do Dave's Long Island Trip. It should be fun! Have a good time in Florida.
My son has a home in Englewood. He goes back to Maine for the summers. Are you doing any lighthousing when your in Florida?

Kay,

I don't expect to do any lighthousing. I won't have time. Are there any near to Tampa that don't require taking a boat to them? I might have some time on Tuesday.

As I understand it from my research there isn't any nearby easy to get to.

I was at Boca Grande and Gaparilla Rear range LH in March while I was in FL.

Kay,

My son and I are going on the Saturday NY Harbor cruise. Look for me as I will have my Wacko badge proudly displayed. I even had a badge made for my (15yr old) son to make him feel like part of the gang. My wife and daughter will be at dance rehearsals and can't make it. frown

Dennis,
It is possible to see Sanibell, You just need to drive to it and it is on the west coast. Not sure how far it is from Tampa.

Sanibel is about a 2 hour and 30 minute drive from downtown Tampa...

Hilary,

Paul's correct- and I've been there.

It's about 1 1/2 south of where I will be going from Tampa.

I was hoping somebody could prove me wrong on my research of lighthouses near to and not too far north of Tampa. I beleive all of them are not easily accessible by car only. I could be mistaken. I looked into for our trip to FL in March.

I'll can have all afternoon in the Tampa area- I need to be in Englewood most of the day Wed and Thu and I'll be flying back late on Fri. I'll probably take a ride over to Boca Grande & Gasparilla RR even though we were there in March as it's about 15 minutes south of Englewood.

You're right, Dennis. The only two anywhere near Tampa are Anclote Key and Egmont Key. They are both on islands so you have to go by boat,
You would need most of the day do do either. My daughter and her friend went over Egmont a few weeks ago and they had to wait quite a while for the boat to come back after them. I love Boca
Grande. Haven't been down there yet this year.
Sorry we don't have more! Have fun anyway!

You can see Egmont from Fort DeSoto(which you can drive to). It is about one mile away, so if you have a good zoom on your camera, you can get a good picture and even if you don't you can still say you saw it.

One day(in the future)they will put a replica of the lantern room back on top.

Eric,

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind for the future. My plans have changed a bit- the person I was hoping to meet in Tampa on tue will not be available so I'm going to go straight to Englewood.

I'll get back to the Tampa area and do the lighthouses when I have more time.

Anyone else planning on going? Dave, do you have a running list of CF members going on this trip? How many are there? I guess they will all be wearing their Wacko badges so it will be easy to identify people...right?
I have not heard back from Greg so I guess he is not going or got another ride...I emailed him with no response!

Glad that you can make it! And I'm guessing that you will have your new camera with you...me too!
