I'm flying into San Diego tomorrow night for meetings on Friday and Saturday mornings. I will have some time Thursday and on Friday and Saturday afternoons to do some sightseeing. The only lighthouse that I see on the map is Point Loma. Are there any others in the San Diego area that I could visit?

There are two for one lighthouses at Point Loma - Old and New.

But you will need to go there during the daytime - the peninsula is closed off at about 5 pm - because the road passes through a military facility.

You could also cruise up the coast a bit to Point Vicente - and, depending on your time, as far as Long Beach / San Pedro to see Point Fermin (and Los Angeles Harbor from a distance.)

Isn't Point Vincente north of Point Fermin? On the map it looks like this would almost be a "2 for 1" kind of deal - not that much distance between the two.

Yes Dave, Point Vicente is North of Point Fermin. I would guess that Vicente is about 20 minutes North of Fermin. If you get to Fermin make sure you find a dead end road to drive down in San Pedro. Here you will find about the only views of LA. Harbor that your going to get on a short schedule. Just before you get to Fermin hang a left into one of the neighborhood streets. They dead end at a cliff and you should get a distant but rewarding view.

Be ready for a drive if you head north of San Diego for Fermin and the rest. Point Fermin is easily 2 to 2.5 hours driving time. It all depends on traffic but plan on nothing short of 2 hours. Email me if you have any specific questions.

Does anybody know if they have reopened the Intrepretive Center at Point Vincente?

It was closed for soil contamination when I was there last May. you can still get a good view of the lighthouse, but you can't get up close and personal unless you make prior arrangements. It's still an active Coast guard site and it's secured.

Thank you all for the help. I will consider making the trip north to Point Ferman also.
