I have 2.5 days to play with after a trip to Seattle. I as thinking of possibly flying into northern Calif. to see a few lighthouses. Does anybody know the names of any airports in the area? Or should i stick with San Francisco? I'd hate to fly all the way out west and not see nay lighthouses (have seen most in Washington and Oregon...the only ones left are on small, desolate islands or way out on the Olympic pennisula). Any help would be appreciated.

You could fly into Eureka CA rent a car one way and drive down the coast to Monterey or SFO. You'd want to double back up the coast a bit to see Crescent City before starting south.

Carol,

US Air seems to have some flights into Seattle from Newark. United and Alaska have flights from Seattle. You could probably do a multi flight from Newark to Seattle to Eureka with an open jaw to San Francisco back to Newark.

You could drive down the coast from there and get to quite a few between there and San Francisco. 2.5 days time gives you the time to do a few. You've got Crescent City (just 85 mi north of Eureka) Pt Arena, Cape Mendocino, Point Cabrillo, Point Bonita, Point Reyes, Table Bluff, Trinidad Head.

Depends on where you are starting from and ending up.

Hope this helps.

Dennis

Thanks for the advice. Only one problem...I can't seem to find any flights between Seattle/Tacoma and Eureka. Any idea how far Eugene, Oregon would be from Crescent City?

223 miles / 4 hours driving time

These two airlines fly into Eureka
Alaska Airlines
United

Use SEA for Seattle Tacoma
Use ACV for Eureka/Arcata

Rather than do that routing, why not fly into San Jose (cheaper fares) or Monterey CA and drive up the coast to Eureka then fly up to Seattle? (I guess that depends on which end of your business trip the meeting is on.)

BTW Dennis Wheland is a travel planner for AAA. He may be able to help you with the flights. Anytime someone uses the term "Open Jaw" you know they're in the Travel Biz..

John,

Actually I'm a former Travel Planner with AAA.

I left there about 2 weeks ago.

I also knew the term Open Jaw from trips I planned and took before I worked there.

I used my handy dandy link to Expedia to find out info for Carol. I had no trouble getting flights from Newark to Seattle to Eureka.

I got some good prices too. I did get one that came up US Air. You are right about the two airlines from Seattle to Eureka- those are the ones I came up with.

Carol are you by chance using Murray Field (EKA) to get into Eureka?
I was using Arcata/Eureka try that as John suggested.

Good luck.

Dennis

Yes, I was using EKA. I will try the other today. Hopefully this will work. Thanks for all the info. I had no idea the forums would be so helpful.

Carol,

Ya just never know what you'll find out by asking on this Forum.

It sometimes even has something to do with Lighthouses.

Hope we can make arrangements to meet for dinner on April 5th. Do you by chance know any good restaurants in the area of the hotel?

Dennis
