Kathy & I always plan ours early, the excitment we enjoy, so first were going to Door co. Lighthouse walk for we didn't make it this year, then in June were doing Lake Erie & Ontario circle tour to see as many lights as we can in two weeks, and do a boat tour of St. Lawrence Seaway put on by GLLKA assoc.To see more lights up the seaway. but best of all I just made reservations to stay at Selkirk Lighthouse for two nights we cant wait. We get it all to ourselves
I just picked up that Light the other day it sure is pretty.
Then in Sept for our anniversary were going back up to the UP to stay at the Big Bay B&B which we've stayed at twice already and highly recomend it.
It will make the winter go a little easier now with all these plans made.

I have all three Great Lakes series and there great lots of imfo.

I have used the Great Lakes Guides as well, but I have concentrated on the western Great Lakes. Some of the travel bureaus put out information on circle tours. Lake Superior probably has the most information on the Lake Superior Circle tour. If you see any info put out by the local areas on their circle tours, let me know how to contact them. Thanks! The Penrose guides are great. We've used them to find about 60 or so Great Lakes lights and have only found 1 small error, (with Big Sable, the pathway to the light is in between different camp sights than they list) but they have been a great help. I hope your not disappointed with Selkirk. We visited there this spring and although we did'nt stay or go inside, the outside was in pretty rough shape.

Larry: Another book you might consider is "Seaway Trail Lighthouses". It is compact and inexpensive. Has a nice write-up on 27 lights in NY and Pa. Call 800-SEAWAY-T to order.

Although Selkirk is one of the closest lights to me I haven't been inside. They don't really like to let you in when someone is staying there which is most of the time. Somehow I don't believe we're talking about antiques or reproductions here. The outside of the light is certainly rustic as are the surroundings. Don't go to this area expecting to find a lot of "action". There isn't any for quite a few miles!

Gee Sue, maybe you can visit when Larry & Kathy are at Selkirk. They'll fix dinner, you bring the wine.

Were going to be there in June Wed. 20 -Fri . anybody want to stop by and say Hi fell free it would be nice to meet you. But I don't know about cooking although I'm a good cook. Kathy &I have a deal I cook and she washes dishes, even though we have a dish washer!!!!! I still think I have the good part of the deal

Thanks Dave for the Great Lakes Circle Tour site! For some reason I have never seen this site before.

In looking at this site, I think it is odd that one can click on a state or province but not which lake one wants to take the circle tour of. It looks like only Lake Erie has its own circle tour website and that is really Ohio's site.

I have found books/magazines on the Lake Michigan Circle Tour and on the Lake Superior Circle Tour.

Speaking from the standpoint of an "outsider" who recently visited the area, the Penrose guide is indispensible from the standpoint of giving you easy, accurate directions. The Seaway Trails and Jones / Roberts Eastern Great Lakes Lighthouse books are nice but the directions are not as easy to follow. And when you are near Rochester you have to take a side trips down to Letchworth and Watkins Glen parks...they are both spectacular and I can't recommend them too highly to anyone!
