I am planning a trip to the New Jeresy area in late October. My mission is to see as many lighthouses as I can and take memorable pictures of these beautiful beacons. The plan is to fly from Nashville, Tn into LaGuardia NY on Long Island late on a Thursday night, have Friday, Saturday and 1/2 day on Sunday before leaving around 4 pm. I would like to see Cape May, Absecon, Barnagat, Navesink, Sea Girt, Sandy Hook in New Jersey and possibly see Fire Island and Montauk on Long Island. (Are there others that I didn't mention that I should see?) I am hoping for tidbits such as travel routes, drive times, the best lights and sights, the do and don'ts of the area and most of all assurance that my mission can be acomplished. Is all of this possible? I would appreciate any information anyone may have to offer. Please Help!!!, Pam

Pam,
Also try the book, Sentinels of the Shore - A Guide to the Lighthouses and Lightships of New Jersey by Bill Gately, copyright 1998 Down The Shore Publishing Corp., Box 3100, Harvey Cedars, NJ 08008.
This book covers the less-well known lights of NJ in addition to the household names and contains maps & photos so you can "window shop" before plotting your route.
Enjoy!

Hi Pam!
It was good to meet you while I was in Clarksville, TN 2 weeks ago! I am glad to see that you are using the forums as a resource for your trip!
Don't forget Cape May- it is the southernmost tip of New Jersey. You could start from there and work your way up the coast- fortunately, New Jersey isn't that big! (no offense to our friends in NJ).
Have a great trip- I wish that I were with you!
