Tomorrow, we're thinking of heading down to visit the Battleship New Jersey. I happened to be poking around the net, and saw that the Barnegat was right nearby there in Camden, too.

I'd love to stop by. Does anyone have any experiences? Checked the usual sites, so I have the directions and all. (The fact that Lighthouse Friends mentioned large dogs in the marina was not good for this caniphobe.)

Thinking it might be a cool Triple-Shiper Sunday...hit the New Jersey, the Barnegat, and the SS United States over the river in Philly.

Not sure if you can get close or not, Greg...

But while you are out and about, I've been wanting a photo of the Lightship that's at the Liberty Landing Marina NJ -

Greg, Good luck checking out the LS Barnegat. Hope you can get close. This is something I also want to do when I have a chance.

John, The Liberty LS is by Jersey City on the Hudson, across from NYC. The Barnegat is by Phily on the Delaware. In NJ going to both places is not something you'd want to do in the same day. (Edited this in) - But that's up to Greg, he's got young legs... and more patients laugh

Hope you can give us a report on your visit, Greg. I only live about 10-15 miles from there and have NEVER seen this lightship! GEEZ! Go figure! Someday I hope to make the visit through Camden...!

Isn't it amazing, how you don't get to see the things right on your doorstep?
But I agree, Greg, please show us more!

Well, unfortunately, due to a driver-reader error, we missed the Barnegat this time. Apparently, when I said "Directions from Philly: take the Ben Franklin Bridge over the River," my dad did not interpret as such. Also unfortunately, the next bridge upriver is very far from the others, too far to conveniently go back.

Next time...we're planning on going to Philly for an overnight sometime in the nearish future - believe it or not, this was the first time I've been to the city in my conscious memory. It's only a little further than NYC from us, but I guess we're above that magic NJ line of "NYC/Philly People."

BUT, I got some nice shots of the New Jersey and the SS United States, as well as some shots from around Hunterdon County (NJ). So all was definitely not lost.
