I just stumbled onto a site, by mistake, but as long as I was there I checked it out and what I found was surprising.
It mostly sold things pertaining to lighthouses, the sea, etc. Harbour Lights and Leftons.
What surprised me was the prices on some of the Harbour Lights.
Examples:
#215 Cape Elizabeth $143.83
#209 Cape Florida 149.58
#162 Brant Point 172.13
#214 Bass Harbour 143.83
#229 American Shoal 174.67
Where are they getting these prices? Has anyone else seen this site?

The name of the site was the Great American Lighthouse Resource.

I do not know where they got the prices. However, it is not uncommon for Lighthouse websites and ebay stores to charge much more than the going price. I did a lighthouse search this weekend and found many hits with over inflated prices. These are the prices that would have been if ebay never existed. My guess is that they hope to get people on a search and just be there when someone wants one particular lights. If you hold out long enough eventually, you will find someone to buy.

I love seeing prices like that! Just imagine if everybody would stop discounting secondary sales. I know sales would slow down but it would make HL's selling for more than retail a definite possibility. It's a shame to see these treasures selling for less than dealer cost at times.

 Bob

I agree with you Bob...seeing them going for a little bit of nothing. I like a deal as well as the next person but it somewhat defeats the purpose of them being collectibles. I understand that a collectible means different things to different people...but I grew up with the notion that a collectible item was something unique, limited edition items that usually increased in value. Ebay has definitely changed that. Before anyone jumps all over me...I did not start collecting them for their value. I LOVE lighthouses and Harbour Lights pieces helped fulfill having them close to look at and admire when I couldn't be on actual location. But in the back of my mind- I also had a small thought that maybe after I was gone if my children didn't want to keep them there would be a little value there if they chose to sell them.
