Esther and I are probably taking a trip to the Cleveland area next weekend. We were in cleveland and saw many of the nearby lights a few years back.

We'll be taking US 6 through PA and hopefully stopping at the Eire, PA area lighthouses on the way to Cleveland (as well as those lights between Eire and Cleveland).

We may take the Goodtime III cruise of the harbor if we have time.

Here's my basic questions for those out there who have done this area -

1. Can you get to the Cedar Point LH without paying to enter the amusement park and if so how and where is it visible?

2. Can you access the grounds at Marblehead LH if the LH is not open?

Thanks in advance.

Dennis

Rick,

Thanks. I didn't think so but just wanted to confirm before driving out there.

Dennis, you won't have any trouble at Marblehead but they wouldn't let me through to Cedar Point. There is a perimeter road, maybe I just didn't find the right turn. You can see it distantly from Marblehead.

Dennis, It's been awhile since I was out there but if you tell the admissions gate where you want to go, they will charge you $.50 (Maybe more now) and you go left around the park near the camping area. Let us know how it works out.

Parking was $5 or $10. Worst case that is what you would have to pay as the park itself has a separate admission. Believe the park only operates weekends at this time of year so you may be able to get in without too much trouble. The light is at the back of the campground - strangely enough, at Lighthouse Point. I imagine they have signs heading you that direction. There was a swimming pool right next to the light, there may also be signs for it. This page has info about Lighthouse Point and a PDF map of the campground area layout. Other places on the site do have maps of the entire park.

Guess I could say that you should have come to the regional a few years ago when I got them to let us into the lighthouse . . .

Dennis:

You can really get good shots of the Cleveland lights from the Good Time III. I was in Cleveland July '09 visiting with my daughter. Her friends from Cleveland State Uni. always do a cruise on the Good Times and they invited me to join them. If you check me out on facebook, my id picture is Janet and me on the Good Time III

We did get to Cedar Point but we had to pay $ 10 for parking as when I said to the 17 year old we were just going out to the lighthouse his response was " What lighthouse ? "

The Goodtime III just didn't work out for us.

R&RHOF tomorrow - unfortunately the Brownsarein town tomorrow and literally right next-door.
