I was in Savannah, GA this past weekend and happened to frolic through a few local HL dealers. I came across a Point Pinos that seemed different than the others I had seen previously. Upon closer inspection I found that the coloring on this peice was indeed different, a pale shade of brown... or tan, almost yellowish. Has anyone ever seen one like it? Of all the Point Pinos peices I have ever seen, they have all been white!

Point Pinos - a fine example of HL arboria. Could any combination of dirt, fading, or hand painting account for the difference?

When a piece has been around (and kicked around) as long as Point Pinos, my first suspicion is exposure to ultraviolet - from flourescents or the sun. It does have some fine trees - among Bob's best.

dirt? no... I don't think dirt. This was paint and as far as I could tell it was not painted over. It looked as close to original as it gets... just yellowish. Similar to the colors of Heceta Head, North Head...etc.
