Some rumblings out of West Kennebunk that there may yet be Anchor Bay product or products that make the line in 2007.

I think a new AB can certainly be expected. However, I don't think it will be the Baby Mac this time around.

I think it's time for something else besides an icebreaker. The Mackinaw was great but the newer CG ships, whether they be bouy tenders, icebreakers or rubber life rafts, still leave a lot to be desired. Bring on an older CG vessel is my word to Harbour Lights. An if they do bring on a newer CG vessel, then let it be the 47' Motor Lifeboat. It is one sharp looking small boat in it's brushed darken aluminum outer skin finish. It's the lifeboat that replaced the 44' MLB that self rights within a minute.

Good call, Dan. I should have said something, too. I read the posts and moved on because I didn't know enough to comment - please, guys, if you have pictures do post them for people like me who love boats but don't always know what we're looking at. I need to learn! frown

Info page on 47\' MLB

The National MLB school at Cape D. Check out the images under the "media" link.

Still want more about the 47?

USCGC MIDGETT WHEC 726

USCGC DUANE WPG-33/ WAGC-6/ WHEC-33 Massive history of the ship. Scroll down just a bit and there is a link to a page of photographs.

All this took was a very easy visit to the CG web site.

One would think the Barnegat Light Ship would be a good seller, especially if it had a low edition size. I was once told that there are more HL Collectors in New Jersey than any other state. I wonder if that is still the case?

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

Don't know about collectors per se, but I think at least at one point in time they were #1 in collectors society members.

That's because we're NJ. We just generally rock. laugh

But seriously, I think a LS Barnegat would be a very, very good seller here in Jersey (none of us say Joisey, you just look like an idiot if you imitate us like that). First of all, it's got the "cachet" of the Barnegat name - Ol' Barney (a name I've never really liked actually) is probably our most famous lighthouse (maybe Cape May ties it, but with the LBI summer crowd, that's kind of doubtful). And really, it's our only lightship of any real "famousness" (insert New York Harbor debate). So I think it'd be strong with the Jersey crowd. Especially if, as you said, there's a very strong (if no longer majority) collector base here.

Heck, maybe even I'll buy one! laugh

I bet it would be save to say that New Jersey is probably one of the top three states for most popular lighthouses. North Carolina and Florida being the two others.

It would be great if they alternate between Coast Guard ships and Lightships each year. I think it would keep all the Anchor Bay fans happy.

My hope is that this year it's a lightship (Barnegat towel

Offering USCG Boats is always a smart move by Harbour Lights considering the amount of retired and active Coasties there are.

I think the time has come for another Lightship. I feel such an offering would be graciously embraced by collectors.

Not to derail the thread...
Funny...living in NJ, I would say we have some GREAT lighthouses but I don't know if I would stretch it to say top 3 states...just because of the sheer number of lighthouses in Michigan and Maine.
However, with that being said, I sure am glad that I DO live in NJ. towel
Back on topic...I would love to see the Nantucket Lightship offered by Anchor Bay! applaud

BeaconBob, Check out the Anchor Bay section on the Harbour Lights website. AB115 is the LS Nantucket.

The 47 actually takes 5-10 seconds to re-right, should she go over...

The 44' MLB also was designed to right itself within 15 seconds but after all the electronics and other apparatus was installed ovet the years there was some talk that depending on Districts(and their individual requirements) it might take up to a minute to right itself. Hope they don't due that to the 47 footer.

Well, first off I think I would enjoy a 47'MLB in the breakers. The 47 is the workhorse of today's surf stations. Beyond that, I would love to see the 52' MLB enshrined. I was stationed at MLB Station Yaquina Bay for 7 years and learned to love the MLB Victory. She was built in 1956 and she is still going strong. Even though we have these fast, new lifeboats, when the bar is cracking at 20-25 feet she would be the one I would want to be on!!

Just ask any Surfman...
