Long time readers of the Fora know that my interest in lighthouses was a happy side effect of birdwatching. Many times when my wife and I would take a birding trip, we would wind up next to a lighthouse.

Someone more artistic than I has illustrated the combination much better than I could. Follow this VA Light & Snow Geese link to see an image of the 2003 Federal Duck Stamp.

I believe this is the third Federal duck stamp to include a lighthouse in the image. The first was in the early '60's and the light is smallish and way in the background. It could be West Quoddy maybe. The birds were Brant.

The second was in the mid-1990's and Barnegat was the light. It was featured much more prominently in the image. The ducks were Surf Scoters, who have a bill that mimics the colors of Old Barney.

Beautiful Stamp! I don't usually collect them, but this one and next years Lighthouse Series will have to be added to my rapidly growly Lighthouse collection! I'm glad that the lighthouse is in the stamp, maybe we can get more interested in the lighthouses as we have you Rick.

I have a collection of Federal duck stamps going back to 1970 ... none of them have a lighthouse on the stamp. The new stamp really looks sharp!!
