I went up to the island this weekend and chipped bricks. For those who still want to do this the window of opportunity is closing. The pile of bricks that have not been separated is getting smaller. If you are from out of town be sure to check when they are doing it (it has been mostly Friday and Saturdays and the hours are some times adjusted). http://www.stgeogelight.org OR email me ericlighthouse@yahoo.com

The board has voted to offer lifetime memberships for a donation of $500.00 (or more). Thanks Glenn Swigart for the suggestion.

Thought I would have new pictures but the guy making the lightening rod is not finished yet, but soon the roof, ventilation ball and lightening rod will be attached.

This week we found out if we get a $50,000 grant from the state.

May 5th we will be having a Cinco de Mayo fund raiser on St. George Island. cool

Lease between the county and state are still being worked on. Dennis our President is trying to get this moving a bit faster.

The island will soon have a "small" visitor center in the county park and we will be a partner in that. smile Details still being worked out.

Nice to hear an update on the progress at St George. Will keep my fingers crossed for grant from the state!

Eric, thanks for the report. I'm thinking possitive thoughts for the grant...please let us know the news.

The Grant was approved. We were 16 out of 81 applicants. Still subject to funding by legislature, but with our high rating it should not be a problem.

That is two in a row for Terry Kemp, who wrote the grant proposal.

That's really good news, Eric. applaud to St. George Lighthouse Association, and also to Terry Kemp. Grant proposals are not easy to write.

Mike, found this on the St. George Lighthouse Association web site about the recent grant...
Grant Approved!
Quote:
This grant will pay for the architectural and engineering plans for the reconstruction, along with requisite soil samples and corings. Funds, if approved by the legislature, will be available in July.
