I am just posting this to let everyone know that I have enough people to get the special deal on the CD-Rom's of the Lighthouse Encyclopedia. Here's a link to the site
http://www.btinternet.com/~k.trethewey/CDAD.html

I'm am planning on sending out an email to all of those who expressed interest early next week.

I wanted to make sure that all who had an interest in getting the Lighthouse Encyclopedia at a reduced price had a chance to do so.

If anyone is interested and has not contacted me yet please send me an email ASAP.

I will get back to you with the details.

Thanks,

Dennis (wheland)

Just a quick note to all.

I am sending out the information e-mail this evening to the 27 people who expressed an interest in this item. I only needed 4 (plus myself) to get us the discount.

The Wackos came through like gangbusters again.

If you expressed interest, you should recieve instructions later tonight. If you have not sent me your name as interested, please do so ASAP. I'd like to get the ball rolling.

Just bringing this back up to keep all up to date.

I have gotten 25 response requesting the Lighthouse Encyclopedia.

Paul is still in a class by himself- the only one requesting Mac.

I'm going to finalize the list this weekend. Anyone who has not at least confirmed their intent to purchase by 3-4-01 will have to go it alone.

I'll be out most of the day on Sunday getting a refresher course on Sandy Hook. Only 5 weeks til it opens for the season.

Hope to see many of you there this year.

Remember, please get your requests in for the CD Rom soon.

Dennis

So far so good. I'm glad they seem to be arriving, although so far with one or two exceptions the arrivals have been on the east coast.

I'm crossing people off the list as you confirm reciept by e-mail or here. I want to let Ken know that we got them all.

You people are going to give me a swelled head. I just wrote a few e-mails, no big deal.

Got mine in the mail and have it installed.
Can already tell it's not perfect. Ocracoke is missing.... but considering the thousands of lighthouses it does cover, I'm pleased with it.
Thanks for spearheading this for everyone Dennis.

Medicman,

You now have the oppurtunity to participate in the other aspect of the lighthouse Prject.

You can write to the Society and let them know all about Oracoke so it can be added to the next version.

This goes for anybody else that finds an omission or a mistake. they want to know that information. They depend on Lighthouse Wackos (and Newbies, etc) to give them the info they need .

Glad you got your CD.

Dennis

Dennis, are you or any of the others having a problem viewing portions of the screens? All my screenviews(pictures, menus, etc) seem to be cutoff on the bottom and the right side. There are no scroll bars in which to bring the missing portions into view, and one cannot move the view. It appears as though I have about 90% of what is present .

Try changing your screen resolution if you have a monitor that will allow you to do that.

George,

I have not had a chance to check my copy out extensively yet. i have not encountered that problem.

I'll play with it and see if I do. If I do I'll try Paul's suggestion and get back to you.

Dennis

I just sent a letter to the Society. Enclosed was a photo, map, and some information about Ocracoke that I picked up over the Memorial Weekend last year. So it should be included in the next edition for everyone.

PAUL: Changing the screen resolution may work, but it requires that I reboot every time I change it or change it back. I shouldn't have to change resolution for just one program when everything else is fine. Any other suggestions? Dennis is going to check it out. I'd like to know if any of the others are having the same problem or is it just my CD and system?

I did not jump on the bandwagon at the time, I see the price is $50, you mentioned getting a discount for ordering 5 or more. How much of a discount are they giving on volume orders?

ANYBODY ELSE HAVING ANY DIFFICULTIES WITH THEIR ENCYCLOPEDIA??? Changing the system resolution doesn't help, it only makes the screenview smaller but not more inclusive. I'm trying to determine if the fault is with my particular CD or is it inherent with all of them.

I'm having the same problem with the right side and bottom missing and no scroll bars. I wrote to Ken and his only suggestion was changing the screen resolution which I have not done yet. Another problem I seem to be having is with the maps. When I click on one of the white squares I get a solid black eight sided figure attached to the lighthouse location by a black line. The name of the lighthouse is supposed to appear under the map, but on my screen nothing appears. Initially I was not getting any white location squares until I first went through the database screen, then to the map. Anyone else having trouble with lighthouse names appearing under the country maps?

I think I found the answer to your problem. If you start the program and then click on the big question mark.... then click on contents in the new window called archive... then go down the list and click on troubleshooting.... the first problem and answer holds the answer to your problem:

Quote:

Problem 1:

I cannot view the photographs OR I cannot find any contents in the Guide Viewer.

Answer:

Your screen resolution is too small. The Lighthouse Encyclopaedia software will only work with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

Like I stated before I think you are having a resolution problem.. while most work at 800 X 600 there are obviously some that take a higher resolution to navigate the window.

Next, I will try and see what the problem is that you are referring to Gary....

I had a lot of the same problems that you posted about, Gary. I think part of the mapping works, while the rest of the map area still needs some work.
