What the heck am I talking about? Head to the U.S. Mint and view a finalist for the Massachusetts Quarter, specifically #3!! Hint: It's a lighthouse! http://www.usmint.gov/50states/2000sketches.cfm#anchor72989 [This message has been edited by engbrady (edited 04-14-99).]

I certainly hope they pick the design with Boston Light on it. It looks great! Bob

My pick would also be the quarter with Boston Light on it. Hopefully other states will vote for quarters with lighthouses on the back where available.

I was hoping for a lighthouse from North Carolina, but Cape Hatteras lost out to the Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk. I think New Jersey also nixed a lighthouse, although Barnegat was depicted on two of the final candidates for the NJ quarter.
I hope at least one state chooses a lighthouse. After all, the lighthouses were instrumental to the growth of the country after the colonial years.

I also hope that the Lighthouse design is picked. It is a strong design that would show up very well on the quarter, but I bet the Minuteman gets picked as that is the symbol that most people would identify with the State of Massachusetts. I hope some state picks a lighthouse. Maybe Maine will.

Minuteman? I thought that was the Sentry Insurance Logo -- too commercial. Lighthouse For ME!

Another vote for Boston Light for the MA quarter. I agree it looks great. Looking on the US Mint link, it's the only lighthouse design there. I wish there was a way to vote for it.

I don't get my hopes up anymore when it comes to the U.S. Mint. They seem to always choose the most unpopular design. Just look what they did with the new dollar coin coming out in 2000. Digger

Sounds like the only way to "vote" would be to write to the Governor or the Secretary of the Treasury. Maybe the New England club could write. Mass. is tough because it's so darn historic. Looks like New York is coming up next. How many votes for Selkirk?
