I have a slanted Sanibel, which is off by several degrees. Is this a defect or a variation? I know of only one other person that has one like this. If it is a defect, does anyone know how many are out there like this? Any information would be appreciated.

Brian

My Sanibel also has a slightly off kilter lantern room. When Sanibel first came out I recall some discussion regarding this so believe other pieces have the same issue. I don''t think it should be classified as a defect, possiblly just a characteristic of the piece.

Saw one on the shelf in SF a few months back and thought it really ruined the piece...I would send it back to HL and ask them to fix it...

Mine is leaning a little, but I love it just the same. Thought they were all that way.

I realize it's only 0516 hours, but I just took a look at my Sanibel (#3110) and it appears to be straight to me. I don't recall seeing any "slanted" ones in my travels from dealer to dealer.

Gee Bob,

I thought I was the only crazy person up early in the AM. Guess not. I don't have a Sanibel so I can't comment on this one. KTF.

Looking at the tower from the front of the buildings, it seems to list a bit to the right. Others I've seen do the same. Other pieces also lean; consider some examples of Cape Henry (I've seen some that had the new tower at a slant and others with the old), Morris Island (Then), Bodie, Buffalo.

My Sanibel, if viewed from the front, is severely slanted at 4.5 degrees to the left. It is very rigid in its foundation. When I first bought it, I assumed the real tower was also slanted, so I never questioned it until I had seen a straight piece.

My Sanibel looks straight. But, then again maybe I was crooked?

After reading all the responses in this thread, I thought it prudent to take my Sanibel out to refresh my memory on this subject.
The actual "defect" on my piece is this, the railing around the lantern room was not seated correctly onto the piece below. If you look closely at the railing by the lantern room, you can see a seam seperating the railing and the piece below. On my piece this space is not consistent. It looks like some flashing or other obstruction prevented the railing from seating properly.
This warped railing in turn makes the entire tower appear crooked. It's a bit of a visual illusion.
I do remember seeing others with the same problem. I also might add that the most crooked tower I've seen to date occurs on the Sturgeon Bay piece. I've seen some really bad examples of that piece.
I hope this makes all clear as mud.

Though I don't have a sanibel yet the ones I've seen looked ok to me. Gives me an excuse to go back and take another look though!

Slanted!!! Thank God someone else noted this, I thought I was being way too picky and thought I was the only one to have it!

I know this is going off the subject a little, but I just noticed that my Navesink has a roof line that is not straight. I have not seen one recently in a store, but I never noticed it before. It looked okay when I took it out to inspect it when I purchased it, but I just took it out o display it (I cleaned a big spot on the top of the computer desk for it) and I took a close look at it and looks as though the roofline has different angles to it as opposed to running in a straight line. Doe anyone else have a Navesink that looks like this? Dennis
