Wackos -- how about doing something for fun ---- and to benefit lighthouse restoration in our own small way. Please refer back to my posting on this General Forum titled "No automatic buzzer for wackodom?" and read Mombo's reply and then my concluding reply. I started out tongue in cheek about a pin, but then thought seriously -- why not. It would be fun. We do now share something in common. Would you buy a pin? Would you buy it at $5.00 or more, so that the amount after the actual manufacturing price would be donated as our WACKO contribution to whatever lighthouse restoration project HL is sponsoring for that particular year? What is it now - still Cape Neddick (Nubble) keeper's house restoration? I know HL has donated to restore a first floor room, but the lighthouse still needs more money to complete the total project.

Our NELL club Christmas party will be on Nov. 27 at York, Me, to see the outlining of Nubble with lights; and we have already committed as a club to donate to the restoration.

Let me know what you think. If there is seriously interest, I will look into a pin for us all. Wackos can be wacky, right?

I think that's a great idea! I'd buy two. How about a pin in color depicting whatever lighthouse is being helped, with the year and the word "Wacko" superimposed on it. It would then be an annual affair.

As a hopefully future WACKO I think it's a great idea.

As a newly converted Wacko - who missed the "automatic buzzer" - I will be happy to order a pin. Collect a pin, save a lighthouse, display the pin next to the HL model of the lighthouse. Sounds like a fun journey to me.

Just to update this post as I promised Barbara. I would like to be able to purchase a pin, but I do not have a specific lighthouse in mind to save. If forced to select, I would suggest any of the needy lights in the state of Michigan which is where I live. I would be happy to have my money go to any lighthouse voted on by the majority.

Looks like there is some interest in a
pin here. Suggestions have been made to
have a different pin each year with the
design of the lighthouse HL is giving
donations to (if there is a different one
each year ??? Anyone know? ). And with
that year's date and the word WACKO
inscribed on the pin. Another suggestion
was to have the design of the Monument to
Lighthouse Keepers at Avery Point, CT,
which is going to be restored and is now
accepting donations; and this would be a
constant design and donation until the
project was complete. I thought maybe
there should be plateaus of wackoness: a
pin for the first 50 postings - you are a
one-star (or should we day "one-light")
wacko; a different pin when you achieve
say l50 postings; and so on. You could
wear them all proudly, as you progress
through wackodom, just like a 5 star
general!

Newbies -- getting a Wacko pin is
something to strive for. Sort of the
"rites of passage". When you qualified,
then you could order your pin. This
would spur you on to do postings to your
heart's delight!

Let's hear comments on these ideas; plus
some of your own ideas. We need to know
--- how many wackos are out there in
wackoland? Are there enough for the
first pin order which has to be a minimum
of l00 pins? And how many of you newbies
think you would be wackos and interested
in a pin, by say after the lst of the
year, as this would be a 2000 millenium
project?

Can some of you do designs on your
computer and scan them onto this forum,
so we can get some ideas, once we find
out about the status of upcoming HL donations to lighthouse?

Probably they would cost more to make if you order more than one design, ie. one star, two stars, etc.

Maybe we could contribute to a lighthouse different from ones that the masses are, one that needs more work done.

Not familiar here, someone else maybe has ideas.

I'd certainly buy one. They wouldn't hurt as much as push-pins if you cared to wear it.

I think the pin is a great idea and I would definitly buy one. However, I am a good way off from becoming a Wacko and have no idea when I will get there! I'm on the road most of the time and am not able to keep up with the forums regularly. (I have so many other things to "catch up on" when I'm home).

Lady Lightkeeper. Great idea. I do want (1). Since I am a collecter of caps. I thank I will pin mine as I get them to my Lighthouse cap.

Count me in for a pin. Only suggestion that I would make is that it would be nice if the particular lighthouse that we decide to help would be featured on the pin. Therefore every year would have not only a new pin, but also a different lighthouse featured on it.

Hello everyone, I like Kat, haven't been on the forum for awhile (started new job and have been putting in long hours)
But to get back in the mix, put Patty and I down for the pins. I think it is a great idea and would be really special if we are able to help restore a lighthouse along the way.
It is good to be back and look forward to more postings along the way.
