This is a continuation for sharing the 'contagious' or 'obsessive' characteristics of collecting Harbour Lights. It is a continuation of a closed thread. You can review the old thread with this link:

John,

Thanks for continuing my thread. I was really enjoying the replies then I noticed that the replies were shifting away from the original topic and when it got locked out so soon and the topic changed completely I thought I had been lost in the shuffle.

Digger,
Remember that you are dealing with whackos here so don't expect linear thinking.

Just remember that digital is the wave of the future and linear is becoming passè.

From one who is very proud to be a Whacko,

Most people deny and hide an addiction. HL collectors proclaim it, expecially here to other collectors. How is a collector diagnosed as a whacko - apparently the most advanced and desired stage of the disease? Is it based on the number of HL owned? Need for low numbered or signed pieces? Is it based on the number of times each day a collector checks or posts to the forums? What are the tell-tale symptoms? We need some definitive criteria for self-diagnosis.

It won't work Rich. You forgot about Catch 22.

Rich

I think one stage of the desease has to be not being able to walk by the cabinet without peering in. I'm always making excuses such as wiping the dog nose prints off the glass, etc. My family is starting to make jokes about it and my dog even imitates me stopping to stare at my collection whenever he is in my room. Or could it be he is showing early stages of the same desease.

Diseases are transmitted in different ways I am convinced that HL disease is transmitted by the internet, especially by this site. You can't get better because each time you visit the site you get re-infected. The Reunion served as an incubator because there were hundreds of carriers in a confined space who were infectious with their enthusiasm.

Rich, I agree! But which is more addictive, the Harbour Lights themselves, or this site? Let's take one of our famous polls:

Which do you spend the most time with:

(A) Harbour Lights sculptures themselves

(B) This website (includes HL.com, Power Page, Forums and chat room)

(C) Spouse (where applicable)

Rod, feel free to take it from here.
