The Wacko Name Badges we did for the Baltimore Reunion last fall were very well received. In fact, on numerous occasions I have been asked if we were considering doing a version for 2002. After discussion with John, the answer is a definite yes. Here is what we have decided:

The badges will be the same size as the ones done for the reunion, and will be in a similar format. We have decided that proceeds from sales will be sent to the South East Block Island light, the light selected for depiction on this year's Wacko Pin. We will use a picture of SEBI (the light, not the HL piece) on the badge.

Information on the badge (tentatively) will be your screen name, real name, Collector's Forum status, hometown, and possibly your lighthouse club name. The addition of club name is new. The design of the badge is still being worked on, and a sample will be posted as soon as it is available.

Also new this year will be an available lanyard (the strap around your neck that the badge hangs from). The lanyard will proclaim your status as a Harbour Lights Wacko imprinted on it.

Pricing will be:

Badge Only: $5 if delivered in person
$6 if mailed
2 for $11 mailed
With lanyard: $8 if delivered in person
$9 if mailed

(In person: I will be at the NJ and Chicago regional events. If you plan to be at one of these events and can wait until then for your name badge, there won’t be any postage expenses.)

Last year we sold 141 badges and ended up contributing $620 to the St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society. Since this will be a longer-term project, open to all collectors, I hope that we will be able to surpass the total you all helped raise last year.

Hopefully we will have a picture of the final version before long and will be ready to start taking orders. Looking forward to improving on our last year’s effort, with the help of each of you!

Dave

SUPER idea, guys! Southeast Light is one of my favorites and a popular visit for me when I'm on Block Island. I've been visiting there for years and also watched part of the "great" move. If you need some pics, let me know.

I will definitely want one of the badges. It was one of the best ideas to make them up for the reunion. A yearly badge will be popular too!

That is a very good idea! Since I am going to Block Island this summer, I can feel like I will be contributing to the light in a small way. Let us know when we can order.

Count me in for 2 Badges and Lanyards.

I think you'll get a good number of others who will want one also.

In responses in this thread, can you please indicate if you want the BADGE ONLY or Badge AND Lanyard?

It will help Dave get an idea of how many Lanyards may be needed.

I would be interested in two: one for me and one for the bride. Let me know where and when to send the check. I would also be interested in two lanyards to go with the badges.

I'm very happy that this type of fund raiser is back again this year. Thank you for making it possible!

Nice to see the positive early replies. We will get an order form set up in the near future, but need to let John get finished with his picture hanging over in the photo contest section! The hope of this thread was to gauge the interest for badges and especially lanyards so I could get supplies ordered. Don't want to over-order on lanyards as that is money out of pocket 'till we get 'em sold.

I wasn't real clear in the original post - the lanyards will be imprinted. We won't be automatically including either a strap or lanyard this year as we did for the reunion. Some straps will be available, but obviously we hope that everyone will opt for a lanyard.

I would love to see this year's effor go past the $1000 donation mark, and I know we can do that!

These are 'Connected Collector' badges to help us identify each other at events and in-store signings. Absolutely anyone who is a registered user - Newbie or WACKO - can purchase one and another for your spouse if they don't mind being ID'd as a 'Wacko' too. ("I'm with Wacko John")

Heck, even if you're a Lurker, you can buy one and let Dave know. That way when we see you at some event, we'll be able to twist your arm into joining us in the contribution side of the Forums.

Put me down for a badge and lanyard as well... not sure if mailed or picked up in Chicago... that will depend on what I decide to do this summer in terms of photography.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Dave was trying to determine how many lanyards should be ordered -- looks like the correct number is 'a bunch'!

You can now order on line through this posting. No need to reply telling us you will be ordering.

Thanks everyone!
