Why can't a portion of the price of the Mini's be donated to the Lighthouse Preservation Society?

Joanne, your idea is one, that should be considered and being addressed by individual basis!
Sorry Joanne!

Karen
Thank you, fellow Harbour Lights Collectors for making me aware, of the many Contributions; that, the Younger's and Association has contributed to Lighthouses
Preservations.

In addition to Sean's comments, which as usual, are right on, consider the reality of the pricing. If a light sells for $12.99, HL sells it to the dealer for about half of that, or about $6.50. From that $6.50 they have to design the light, pay to have it made, shipped to the US, shipped to the dealer, pay advertising and marketing costs and their reps, and hopefully make a small profit for all their efforts. How much of that $6.50 should they also give away? I think their contributions from the GLOWs are very nice and we should all thank them for that.

Just a clarification - I did not suggest that HL should make any further donations. I asked in a GLOW vs. Mini thread that if Minis replaced GLOWS, would a donation be made as with the GLOWS.

You must also take into consideration that the hard work of the crew from Harbour Lights creates a very important awareness of the plight of endangered lights. This awareness in turn draws attention to the needs of these lights, therefore, bringing in charitable donations for their preservation. One does not need to reach into one's pockets to help. Help comes in many form especially awareness. For example, enough publicity makes government aware of the wishes of the people and may lead to grants and funding far beyond what Harbour Lights could ever afford to contribute and still stay in business. God bless the crew from Harbour Lights for all the work they have done to raise this awareness about our beloved lights wherever they may be!

We only know a small portion of the generosity of the Youngers and Harbour Lights to Lighthouse causes.

In only a few cases have they chosen to disclose their gift publicly in order to leverage that donation by requesting collectors also contribute.

I'm not downgrading actual donations, but even if the Harbour Lights company/family had not donated one shekel to any preservation project they have done an incalculable amount of help to preservation of numerous lighthouses just by raising awareness of lighthouses to people like you and me who then turn around and visit them and donate either time or money or in some cases both.It is an extra over and above that any portion of their sales is donated to preservation. They have done more than their part. I suggest that any one who wishes can donate a percentage of what they spend on HL LH's to the preservation fund of their choice. Dennis

First, I would like to apoligize to Joanne, I misinterpret her explanation of donations!
But, In my error, I also became aware from other Harbour Lights Collectors of the generosity of the Younger's many donations.
Which, now that I am aware of their contributions, I feel they have been overly gracious, during the years!
But, Bill Younger and Association, in introducting Harbour Lights Lighthouses has made an awareness, of Lighthouses throughout the country!
Thank you, fellow Harbour Lights Collectors for helping me see the light!
Karen :-)

I am glad that you are now aware of how
much Harbour Lights really does to help
save lighthouses. I have spoken to Verna
just this week, who is the guiding light
of the Nubble (Cape Neddick) Light
restoration, here in Maine, and she also
mentioned with much gratefulness that HL
had donated $3500 to restore one of the
rooms in the keeper's house. Verna will
be our guest, along with the Flying
Santa, at our NELL HL Christmas party at
York and Nubble lighting ceremony in two
days, where our club will be making a
donation presentation to both good
causes.

Also please be aware that all of us
wackos will be making donations to
lighthouse preservation when we order our
wacko pins later on this winter. Though
this is a private undertaking, we are all
"HL family". HL has been nice enough to
work with us on use of their artwork,
along with photos and design work by Paul
Brady, John Chidester, Rod Watson, and
Lamar Bevil. So it is a cooperative
donation project.

Now that you are a wacko, you will also
be able to make a donation by purchasing
a pin when they become available. You
will also be able to send along any
additional amount you wish, to be sent to
the recipient lighhtouse restoration
group involved in this pin project.

Please stay tuned to the general forum
for information on how to order the pin
later this winter.
