Fall Workday - Sat. September 23rd

It’s time again for the Fall Cleanup/Work Day at Michigan City Lighthouse.

Saturday, September 23rd looks to be the best day for all involved. There are no Notre Dame home football game this weekend, but the hotels are filling up fast.

We will gather for breakfast on Saturday morning and then we will head over to the lighthouse to start on our projects... I need members to RSVP if they are going to be at the breakfast to have a head count for the restaurant.
Location for breakfast Dino's Family Restaurant (on US 20 across from Marquette Mall) is at 8:30 a.m.

Everyone should remember last year’s clean up day … prepare for cool/cold weather but pray for sunny mild days. REMEMBER YOUR GLOVES! We may need to do some painting so wear old clothes.

Hope to see you all there.

I wish I lived close enough to go help. What a privilege to be able to volunteer at such a wonderful lighthouse!

We will meet for breakfast at Dino's Family Restaurant at 8:30 a.m. Sorry about the confusion but I've edited the original post to reflect my mistake.

Yeah, where are they? If we can't be there, the next best thing is seeing the pictures of the rest of you working at OMC - pleeeaze! wink

Harold spends time to caulking the windows for the winter.

Shellie destroys the weeds in the corner flower bed.

Charlie spends time before the rain cleaning up the yard.

Cleaning the mud from the drain and the sidewalk brings up the lack of edging to hold back the encroaching grass.

Amada and Kat listen as Jackie explains some of the recent files donated to the Michigan City Historical Society.

edited to fix links

It was a group project weeding the flower bed around the refurbished porch while adding new mums to the existing plantings.

A distance view of the lantern room as Larry, Doyne and Gary secure the roof back to the main building. The roof was lifted off and set back down in place during recent storms. Now that it is secured again, it will weather the winter winds.

Amanda joined in for the workday for her first time visit to a lighthouse. She came with Edith and Frank and their daughter Jenny. Hopefully, we didn’t wear her out and she will come again.

Susan consults with Dave as he takes out the trees growing too close to the oil house.

Hoisting a sailboat out of the water for winter.

Harold does a little hose wrangling.

Doyne attaches the downspout that was damaged in the storm.

Gary works on finishing the trim for the new attic door.

Kay helps Gary with the cutting.

Meeting time was a great time to plan for next spring. Also a few goodies with passed out to those holding winning tickets.

Admiring the work done after the rain stopped.

Roy and Charlie contemplate the finished work.

A view from the top at the end of the day.

As we prepared to leave, a wedding party showed up to use the lighthouse as a backdrop for their wedding photos.

Roy, Gary, Kay, Cindy, Doyne, Suzanne, and Pam discuss the day’s work as they choose their dinners.

Charlie, Margaret Ann, Susan, Dave, Harold, Shellie, and Carolyn try to decide on dinner and which of the fabulous pies they want for dessert.

At the hotel we gather to make additional lighthousing plans for Maine.

I second that motion! Old Michigan City is so fortunate to have such a dedicated group as a support team.
