One doesn't usually think about doing any "lighthousing" in the middle of winter, but why not? The keepers and families who tended the lights years ago couldn't take time off just because it was cold outside or there was snow on the ground. The lights still had to keep burning brightly to mark the way for the many ships and the crews (who also worked year-round) in order to move their cargos from port to port.

Join NELL in January when we visit Massachusetts' Government Island (site of the Minot's Ledge Light head keepers residence), Scituate Lighthouse and the Irish Mossing & Marine Museum.

Hey Ron, ...Don't forget to keep heading north from Minot's Ledge and travel right up into Hull. You can view the Point Allerton Life Saving Station and Boston Light.

We will both be there. Ron, I like the little marshmallows in my hot chocolate.

The response so far has been great for this outing (30+ People). I'll make sure we have plenty of small marshmallows Augie. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there.

Looks like it was a great outing for your club. We also visited our clubs adopted Pottawatomie Lighthouse on January 27. We had to snowshoe a mile across Jackson Harbours ice and then another mile up to the lighthouse. The island is deserted in the winter except for a cross country skier and us. It was truly a great experience. We also had hot chocolate, but forgot the marshmallows.
